Question for those that have them installed on the 3rs gen. Does the hood open up further. The prop rod seems too short.

I've checked and I have seemed to have lost about an inch of hood lift compared to the factory prop rod. For me that really makes little difference since I like the convenience of just opening the hood and not having the rod in my way.

Being lifted as much as I am and vertically challenged, im hoping this will help me. I need a step stool to get the hood high enough to use the prop rod :facepalm:I've got them in the truck haven't installed yet.

Well, the passenger side shock has decided to keep the pressure up and raise up again. So, my original issue is back. Not so happy with the shock at this point.

I know this thread is a bit old, but last I heard with these was they didn't fit with the TRD intake, can anyone confirm that these CAN be used WITH the TRD intake? TIA!!

I can tell you they don’t fit the K&N without modifying the enclosure at the intake. I know this doesn’t answer your question at all but maybe it will help someone else... and maybe give you a bump.

I am thinking about purchasing these but have a couple concerns:

For one, I've read a couple concerning reviews saying that they cause some noticeable flex in the sheet metal where the mounts are located.

Two, I'm worried about the rivets rusting and therefore rusting the sheet metal they are attached to.

Third, I'm concerned with the rivets loosening up over time. Many, many times in the past, I've seen rivets loosen up and then start to egg out the material they're attached to.

Has anyone had these installed for several years without issue? I almost wonder if using a structural epoxy in conjunction with the rivets would make for a more solid installation. If my concerns are not founded, I'll definitely purchase them, though I wish the elite kit wasn't polished stainless. I'd gladly pay $30 more if it WASN'T shiny stainless steel!

For me it did, but not much. Maybe a 1/2" or so. No big deal to be honest.

I've had mine installed for almost three years now without any issues. There's no flex where the rivets attach to the hood or engine bay. I used a rust prohibitor on the drilled holes prior to popping the rivets so I'm not worried and to this day they work and look great.

Valid concerns, but will evaporate once you do it. I had the same, but it's one of the best upgrades I've ever done. There is very little flex in the hood or in the mount section because those are bolstered bent areas. You'll see it once you do it. The rivets will not rust and as a preventative, you can put down a little RTV under the bracket to help prevent any intrusion of water.

When you pop those rivets in, they are tight. Super tight and if they do loosen, which I haven't experienced, you can drill them out and pop new ones in. Super simple.

I will say this. Measure measure measure and measure again. You only get one shot it is, so follow the instructions carefully. Use blue tape to make marks and protect your paint. Use a center punch before you drill. Otherwise, enjoy the upgrade.

p.s. one more thing I just remembered. When you drill to the hood side, if you have one, use a drill collar to set the drill depth. Don't use tape, get a drill collar. They are cheap and they work. Nothing will suck more when you are drilling on the underside of the hood and you overdrive that drill and hit the underside of the top of the hood and you ding it. There is a lot of gap there, but human nature being what it is, I'd do it as cheap insurance.

I had prop rods on a previous vehicle. Worked great; however, there were several times I wanted to lift the hood much higher than the rods would allow in order to reach near the firewall, so had to de-rivit (not good). Also on previous vehicle I could raise hood without the prop rods to lean against the windshield with a pad (somewhat like a "jeep"), so I eventually removed the rods altogether. I don't know if the Tacoma hood will lay against the windshield if necessary without prop rods? Yes the Tacoma hood is heavy; but I like that it is made of steel and not aluminum.

I just received a kit, but have not installed yet. The rods don't seem to compress as they come out of the tube. Is this normal? I'll presume they need some weight to compress, but I was trying to compress them against a table and they didn't budge.

I have the TRD intake and I installed the Elites earlier today.
    Plenty of clearance in there.
