I'm looking to trade wheels & tires with a friend of mine, as she could give a crap and seems amenable to my smaller wheels and an extra few hundred bucks for the trouble.
    I have a 2000 Tacoma X-cab SR5 4X4, wheels are stock 15".
    My friends tires are 165/65R17.
Will these fit without spacers or any other shenanigans?

depends on what year her truck is... in theory 265/65/17 is slightly wider than your stock 245/75/15... assuming hers are from a newer tacoma, the backspace is different... yours is about 4.5" and hers is around 5" or so... if you can get her to let you test fit, that would be best...

You better do a test fit. I'm betting the 15's are not going to work on her truck.

Thanks everyone. So she has a 2006 or 07 Runner. Will see if we can do a quickie swap on one of the fronts to check for fit. For the life of me I can't intuitively understand why a smaller wheel would not fit, but I'm hearing y'all.

(I did go down the wheels & tires 37-page rabbit hole last night, and appreciate your time)

I believe the brake caliper size and/or brake vein location is the issue. If you want to avoid liability messing up her truck, may be best to err on the side of caution.
