OP bought a '19 taco, subsequently joined TW and realized he must have a bad transmission. Then OP reads some 2020 guys are happy with their AT's and wants his to act in a more linear manner, like theirs.

No other forum on planet earth that per capita, uses the word linear more often than TW.

^^Not sure if that was an accurate answer, wild guess, or simple rant...

I suspect it's possible, I also suspect that were you to do it, there's a good chance you'd go from having a really nice truck to a really expensive paperweight.

    I honestly don't know.
I do, however, know the very real effect this forum has on the minds of the easily influenced, aka the power of suggestion and additionally, the placebo effect. This forum is rampant with both.

The transmission programming in the 19’s is identical to the 20’s.

I'm going to go ahead and defer to the guy with the most experience in our truck's programming outside of a Toyota engineer.

I don’t know about a Toyota...but if a Honda has a software update that can be started using the HDS...then whatever those changes may be to the software will be updated...if it can’t be done it will just tell you the system does not need an update at this time....

Sheldon Brown, the chief engineer for the 2020 Tacoma, says the software has been changed. He mentions 2019 and 2020. So maybe 2019 also has the updates?

Toyota has implemented the 2017 programming in the 2020s because it’s 14% more linear. This was confirmed by Mike Sweers and Sheldon. TFL has confirmed 2017 is best for towing.

Have you driven a equally equipped 2020 vs a 2019?
