This might be the first time I’ve seen a resounding “go to the dealer” response on here.

Evap issues on brand new vehicles can be expensive as feck to diagnose and fix. This is what the warranty is for.

Like most others on here have stated. NOT NORMAL. I have a ‘21 and personally know several others with ‘21’s of varying configuration.

None have this issue. I would think the dealer would love to sort this out for you while under under 10K.

Get it fixed before you have to pay for evap system repair from all that excess fuel getting where it shouldn't

“Love” is a strong word :boink:

@Cogito report back after the dealer takes care of you. We’d like to hear what the issue is.

Only stuff i've read here in the past is just the opposite not allowing the owner to keep fueling the truck....the pump keeps clicking off yet the tank isn't close to full.

There's nothing normal about this. Take it in for warranty work

As stated earlier, vent tube sounds like it’s blocked, or kinked. If, as stated, it fills the evaporation canister, it’s an expensive repair. The dealership really is your best bet.

i understand the issue, you can here when the gas is about to top off, stop at that point.
it is something to do with the fill hose on your truck. IMO

I have been somewhat successful listening to the pitch change as the tank fills, but as explained previously, it's difficult to do in a noisy environment.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I can relate to the sound/pitch method - started pumping gas in the early 1960s before auto-shutoff nozzles were common. Quite common on some vehicles to experience a bit of splash-back.

My last work truck was a one ton Chevy with a utility body. It spit out gas ever since it was assigned to me. The garage told me that it was because the installer of the truck body didn’t move the fill tube correctly and the tank couldn’t vent as it was filling….. they told me to live with it….. I did as others said I listened for the change in sound…. But if it was my truck….it would be fixed

Like several have said, it will overflow into your charcoal canister and if you replace it yourself its over $500, the dealer is over $1000. That might not show up till later, so make sure they have a good record of this issue so you can claim it later in needed.

On another note, you putting the nozzle all the way in? Your going to need all 3 inches in there, I mean 6. Seems like it would trigger early if anything like plugging. Regular name brand station or some pump on someones camping trailer or something goofy?

I asked the dealership to check the canister also. I can assure you, I'm filling the tank properly. It doesn't matter what gas station I use. 6 inches huh? Don't be a braggard! :)

Did you ever keep filling past first click? If so, you plugged up the vent. Last 20 years.

Sooo... Had the Taco serviced today. Well, kinda. They said that my tank was too full in order to put gas into to check it. I told them that they could fit at least two gallons into the tank based upon the milage I had driven since last fill. So, I asked at what level would be good? They responded, "About a half tank or less". Honestly, what difference does it make if you pump two gallons or ten gallons? The results are going to be the same.

So now, I have to bring it back to the dealer again and arrange another ride back. A total pain in the ass... As such, I've decided to make sure my tank was near empty as they will be filling it up at Toyota's expense.
