    Greetings,
Not a mechanic. Just had a refurb 2.7 put in my 2000 Tacoma. Been in for only a few days. Mostly runs good, but seems to have more vibration and is maybe louder in general than original engine. Will the engine mellow out and become smoother with time?
    Much thanks.

Possibility that the motor mounts are bad and/or they just bolted them down. I like to leave them just a little loose for the first 5 minutes of so and let the motor and mounts “settle” in if that makes any sense.

Knowing what mechanics are charging these days, I would take this question to whoever put it in and keep asking until you get an answer you're happy with. I'd expect things to sound and act a little different, but more vibration is definitely something to look at. It could be anything from a component causing it to run poorly to something out of balance in the rebuild. Does the vibration occur when stopped or only when it's moving?

Louder . . . not as much of a concern, or it could be something in the exhaust system has changed.

I really don't expect time to fix anything, I've rebuilt a couple engines in my life and I always hear a little difference on first startup, then when it warms up, that's how it runs/sounds from then on.

If you're not getting the answers you want, throw down a little more cash at another mechanic for a second opinion.
