My current truck is on its way to the grave, and i am searching for a tacoma but hit a wall with my selection. I have narrowed my search down to two vehicles but I cant make up my mind. One is a 2014 reg. cab 5 speed,4 cyl, Brand new...the other is a 2010 sr5 access cab with 50,000 miles, one owner, all maintenacerecords, 4cyl, 5 speed. Both trucks are the same price,20k. I am looking at the 5 speeds because my commute to work is about 2 miles, auto wont even be warm by then and it seems more wear and tear on the tranny if I go auto. The weekends I drive more, sometimes 50-100 miles to nearby shoots or hunting/fishing. I like the access cab I can store my bow behind the seat BUT I never have good luck with used, if I go the reg cab route I am stuck on storage and with that stupid bench seat that just looks uncomfortable. What do you guys suggest? I will have this truck for awhile, and I cannot get into a 2014 access cab because if my finances, these are in my range. Thanks.

I'd grab the used truck before the new. It's only four years old. It has the cab and seat configuration you want. And at four years old you should be able to haggle on the price more than the brand new truck. Once you drive the 2014 off the lot you're losing a little more on resale than when you drive the 2010 off the lot, which in turn the 2010 has already lost some, (not much because it's a taco), but some resale which is in your favor. I'd haggle on the used one.

Have you driven a 4cyl 5speed 2nd generation Tacoma? I test drove a reg cab and decided I'd need a first gen or something just because I didn't feel I could safely pass or zip out of harms way if need be. Just wondering. If it's sufficient for you then don't mind me.

Thanks, I havent driven the 4cyl yet. I do all my driving on city roads so passing isnt an issue, i travel the interstate maybe 3 times a month for only 20 miles. I just wasnt sure if used is the way to go. I didnt even think about the loss as soon as you drive it off the lot. Its making the 2010 look better now. I am hoping to do this before the first of the year. The 20k price i stated included tax and reg.

Always haggle. I've never paid close to what a dealer was asking. I paid semi-close on my current Pickup because several others were trying to get it before me, but I had them install A/C for free and deliver it for free so at least I got some things thrown in ha.
