Thanks man, I still love the Taco but just needed a full-size truck. I simply outgrew it and now super in to RV camping. Can't blame you if in bay area to wanting the smaller form factor. I'm in Texas so space isn't an issue. I now want a Ram 3500 diesel SRW for a fifth wheel and an optimal tow experience. Wife has a Lexus IS so I still fully support the Toyota cause lol.

For anyone that ends up on this thread; I spoke with ECGS today and for a 2nd gen with the 6 gear MT, running 35's with a supercharger, they recommend going with 4.56. I'm about 1,000 lbs. over stock curb weight and they still think it's fine. With 4.88s, he said I was only going to gain about 2-3% more low end torque and higher RPMs on the high side of the power band. So, I'm pulling the trigger on the 4.56 w/ an ARB locker up front. I'm both nervous and super excited to get my low end torque back after almost ten years!

WILCO. They got here today, planning on the install this weekend. Wish me luck, I haven't done it before and I'm getting a little nervous about fuckin something up.

Sorry to conjure up an old thread, but minus a supercharger, long tube headers, built exhaust, CAI, tb spacer, upper-plenum spacer, and excellent inhale and exhale, currently on 34-ish tires, looking at 37's, (the true 35) 4:88 are the gears I'm pretty set on as a dd, and wknd toy-hauler.
This sound about right?? Ecentually I'll tune, or Procharger in the long run, but 4:88's seem pretty good or no???
Thanks in advance to any Taconian who responds...

I feel like the TB spacer may be doing nothing for you but collecting gunk in the swirls. 4.88 will be good for DD 2nd gen on 35's or 37's.

@Texoma; yeah, you're probably right about the spacer, but I usually clean out my TB, spacer and MAF every 3rd oil change. It really doesn't get very dirty. Much cleaner than my oil catch can. I can stomp the gas and hit higher rpm's without feeling any stress. 4:88 after much thought and lots and lots of reading are my chosen gears.
    Thanks for chiming in....

No worries, we're bringing it back to life...:D. so, I'm just going off my discussion with ECGS here, but they told me that if I had the automatic trans w/ only the 5th gear (I don't know what years had this), then they would recommend 4:88 for my setup (refer to my earlier post for that). So depending on your trans, that may be the best option, plus, I also think that being N/A they would also recommend that. Once you go full send with the boost creep mods, you'll probably experience higher RPM's at hwy speeds, but I bet you'll love the low end torque so it may not matter to you. I hope that helps your decision making process.

FWIW, I just put on a set of Kenda Klever RT 35x10.5x17's and with them mounted, on the truck with weight applied, they measured at 34.5. So fairly close to true 35, and they are more than likely lighter and easier to stuff if you find the 37's a little too challenging/ expensive to get in the fender well. Plus, I just love the look and feel of them... Just another data point for you.

LGOPs504/ Thanks, really appreciate it. I'll probably stay with 35's because of tire pricing, and when prices are for 20's, they're really expensive...

You're welcome. Not to belabor the point here, but the Kenda's are still kind of unknown to the wider community, as a result, they tend to be cheaper than most of the main brands. Not too long ago, they were $180 a tire. Amazon and Walmart bumped their prices recently to $201, but I found them a bit cheaper on Simpletire.com. check out this thread if you want more info on them.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/35x10-50x17-kenda-klever-r-t-kr601-thread-skinny-35s.657193/

there's a couple of threads about them, but I found this one to have the most vetted information...

That's a big 10/4, and thanks again. I'm currently on new Cooper 305 60 r20's. So it'll be some time. Thanks again tho. I'll be sure to revisit and open this thread again in that time....

I would agree. I am on 4.56 Auto and want 4.88. When I referred I had smaller tires and 4.56 was perfect. 4.56 295-315, 35’s is money.

I was considering the Kendas but are actually pretty heavy. I may still do it as they do sit taller than many 34’s. 37’s it a pipe dream but maybe at some point

Man can’t imagine that. 4.56 on 35’s even with a S/C no gears or S/C and heavy. Slug status

yah I believe it just imaging how much. Was it loaded up with armor or a lighter? Truck still has power but it was a noticeable difference with 4.56 going from 285 to 315 so could only imagine having stock gearing, it would work but less than ideal but I admin I do not have direct experience running larger tires on stock gearing.

Lol, heck no! But I've been fucking around with 285's for most of that time. My last set of tires were Cooper ST Maxx 255's and when I first put them on, I got some of my low end torque back and it reminded me of the good ol' stock days. However, I did put on my 35's last weekend, because well, they were sitting in the garage staring at me, so I did it knowing that if I were sluggish, I wouldn't have to be for very long with the upcoming gear install. And actually, it's not terrible, although the supercharger does help, and I wouldn't want to run it like that for long, especially when I add the fam and gear for a trip; that would probably suck.

I gotcha..4.88s sounds like what I wanna do. I like the responsiveness I will give. i do a lot of highway driving and don’t wanna be high rev.. I’m still undecided.

I may do 35s for about a year until I re gear. But I’m not fully loaded and up-armored. I’ve been in 285/75/16 and stock gearing for years, bought the truck with them like that. It’s responds pretty well... done several trips around the country and it drives fine. Just the gas mileage sucks. crawled well, and tackled everything i wanted. I am conservative off road and not like some of you crazy asses. Really wanna do the re gear. Funds are short, hobbies have to be put aside. Tires are well needed though.

Wanna hear how those 4.56 treat you
