Yeah, no,I bought the tacoma for its reliability and it’s proven nature as a work horse. Which I will attest to that!! No matter how hard i am on that truck, it just won’t give up. I don’t care about the MPGs, weird shifting, the ride quality, the interior features, or the bolt on accessories. I just needed something that can handle the abuse and the taco has been great. But again! Everyone has different needs.

Dude I don’t take it personal. It’s the internet after all. But again that’s my real name as my user name and I’m not trying to get banned off of this forum for being misinterpreted. I don’t know Any of you personally so I always tread lightly. Strangely this is actually the first time I’ve been called a snowflake and it was for apologizing which isn’t how I thought that term was used. Maybe I’m wrong. This Tacoma forum is the only source of social media that I have so maybe I’m just out of touch. I’m not even that old!!

You sound like a sensitive person.

I apologize if I hurt your feelings.

    Work in progress...
Gear Heads always want to squeeze a little, a lot more out of their autos. It don't have to be broke for some of us to want to make it better.

No need to apologize man it’s just a truck forum. We should all be here to have fun. I even wrote that that I don’t take it personal in my post. I dont understand why you are taking it so hard. You can PM me if you’d like to talk about whatever I must have said to upset you. Truly friend I didn’t mean to upset you.

I think we just need to chalk this up to “failure to communicate “.

ECT PWR & S-Mode are not restricted to towing only. Owners can use it as they please. It's my daily driver in town regardless of towing or mountains. OVTune and regearing are at the whims of the algorithms of the ECM code. And the ECM will always work and learn to get back to non sequential shifting. OVTune overwrites part of the binary code of the ECM to both change the shift points and force sequential shifting. Without having the complete source code to be able to regression test all the modules within the ECM I find it a bit scary being the tester when I am under DRCC at 80mph coming up fast on a car doing 45mph. If a global variable used by DRCC was overwritten beyond its min/max range by OVTune... I don't wanna find out at 80mph.

This is funny. I increased my torque output by 30% with regearing. There are a few trails where the truck desperately needed that torque increase. Can only go so low.

Is there a better stock truck for off road use?o_O My old 01 went places I never thought it would:D and my new one will go to those same places. Now given I have slightly bigger/durable tires, but other than that, stock. And let’s not drive into the wilderness where no path is please, that’s what gets our 4wheel roads closed in the first place:cool:

If I’m off road for work, it’s probably because it’s about to be all torn down and have utilities installed and roads put in for a commercial project. I work civil construction.

Gearing is where it's at. Some people NEED to keep their vehicles stock, be it "the warranty", fear of unreliability, or chasing potential issues. Usually the people that can't work on a vehicle themselves, so they have no actual understanding of the changes that others are talking about. Off road, extreme low range torque is king. It doesn't do any good to have 500ft/lbs at redline unless you're just out there to see who can break more CVs.

Why? Well as a deceased friend used to say, "Because I can". The government hasn't reached that far into our vehicles yet. But, I pretty sure lawyers are already using the "it happened because the vehicle was modified" tactic already. This will lead to restrictive legislation.
