I would still like to hear anyone else who has had an experience with this. If it's post trans I don't mind doing that work, I get it, output shaft speed is higher than it was engineered to be spinning for a given vehicle, but a tcc solenoid, or coolant manifold seems drastically unrelated. Is it a court case every time, or do some dealers just fix what's clearly a factory defect and leave the rest alone?

You gotta understand that a regear acts in both directions.

Are you talking about decel? Sure I can see that in some sense. Hard parts, clutches ect. But not fluid systems, and electric/electronics.

I don't think dealers and techs would go looking to see if there might have been a re-gear if you go in for a free oil change, but if you have some other issue and then bring your truck in for some repair that involves some lengthy diagnosis - there's a drive line vibration as I'm coming to a stop, or what's the scratching sound that varies with vehicle speed, they may notice it and IMO should make a big deal out of it. But if you come in with a passenger side power window that stopped working, I don't think a tech would care.

I don't think a tech's job is not necessarily to fix anything, their job is to put things back to factory spec.

Exactly. However, if you lose an ADD or transfer case, the regear will be a reason to deny warranty.
OP, you always pay to play. How much you can afford is up to you.
When I used to rock crawl a long time ago, I always made sure I had enough money to fix whatever I could break and that included the entire driveline and suspension.
Have fun but don't depend on warranty if you are having fun.

Regearing has nothing to do with rock climbing. Maybe he wants better highway manners.

Putting huge tires on stock gears is way harder on everything than regearing on stock tires.

You are correct for sure. Changing ratios on stock tires is not good either.
Chances are nothing will happen either way. I just want the OP to understand that you need to own your mods. I have, you have, just be prepared to pay to play.

I just want to be able to go up a hill at 60 MPH with the cruise on and not have constant 6-5-4-3-4-5-6-5-4-3 repeat shifts. Also being able to use all six speeds or even just five in my automatic transmission would be nice rather than just the bottom four. Everything else is fine in stock form.

Man it is easy to get off topic in here . Still looking for folks with approved or denied warranty claims with re-geared tacos. Please share your story.

Even if 10 people tell you the warranty was approved and 10 the opposite, it’s up to you. Each case is unique. That said, engine/tranny failures in Toyota are super rare. Regearing like you say is the equivalent of putting much smaller tires on. How is that damaging? And the chance of a warranty tech even noticing the gears are changed is remote. It looks identical from the outside.

And each dealer is unique. Some are better at being accommodating with mods and warranty claims, others less so. So even if you found a person here that says they took a re-geared truck in for drivetrain work and they got it done under warranty, you could take the exact same regear with the exact warranty issue to your dealer and have a totally different outcome.

If you want to be assured that your warranty will remain in tact mods are not the way to go. No one is trying to be a smart ass or purposely go off topic, it's just impossible to judge what your experience would be at your particular dealership.

Yeah, I definitely realize every situation is unique, and people here generally mean well. If I keep the truck, it's getting gears. I would really like to hear some personal experience though. These threads get so deep and it is usually a lot of speculation and opinion with some relevant content mixed in. Just looking for some "this is my truck" and "this was my experience" type stuff.

Yes, this is exactly what I just said.

OP: the failure rate of engines/trannies/axles on stock Tacoma’s is so small, you aren’t likely to hear more than a few anecdotal stories at best. When you factor in gear changes your sample size is now so small it has no statistical significance, whether or not it was covered by warranty. You’re not going to get the answer you want.

From someone who was born and raised in the mountains, and lived there until I was 38 years old (and still works in the mountains all the time)… who the fuck uses 5th and 6th gears in the mountains?? I don’t even think of my overdrive gears unless I’m on the freeway.

No I’m serious. Ya think maybe the reason you aren’t using 5 and 6th gear 90% of the time is because you’re in the mountains, and you aren’t driving the kind of speeds that 5th and 6th gear are for? At least 50% of my driving is mountain roads and I rarely get above 4th gear because there isn’t a whole lot of 70 mph+ roads in the mountains.
