There's no diff in the front to regear, so yeah, just the rear.

I would do the lift and tires first and drive it for a few days to see if the decrease in acceleration is noticeable enough for you to justify the extra expense of re-gearing the rear axle.

    Aight. Real answer.

Everything comes with a compromise. The bigger you go, the bigger the compromise. And I realize that in our heads, we all know that going in. But for most people and especially people new to Tacomas (I don't know your personal history admittedly), once the money is spent and the honeymoon of owning a bitchin looking truck is over, they realize just how big of a compromise it really is.

These trucks have a fairly delicate balance and it doesn't take much to lose an mpg here, a couple seconds there, a howling crosswind over there... And before long it only becomes enjoyable to look at and take on short weekend runs.

Not everyone is the same. Maybe you're one of the few that is either happy with trading it in in a couple of years or keeping it lifted despite the penalties. But for most people, there's a reason why you don't see many folks dailying a cool ride for long. (If it was easy, everyone would have one - theorem)

Because if you use Google and type the title of your post followed by tacomaworld you’ll see all the regrets of those who went that route. Again, it’s all good. Have fun with your truck and be safe. Send it!

After building my truck tp suit my weekend adventures I'm glad I don't daily it as the additional fuel would be miserable to to live with given the constantly increasing price these days.
But since I have a work truck and the tacoma rarely moves between Monday and Friday I'm sitting here with
    ragrets.jpg

I personally wouldn't advise anything over a 285 on a daily with a minimal lift. Toss on a negetive offset wheel and you have a livable "tough" looking truck
I still go back and forth on the 35 debate with myself but at the end of the day I would be doing it for a look and Ultimately butcher the performance of the truck for what i use it for.

Mods are cool just make sure your ready to live it as others have stated.

But to answer your question only 1 diff on the truck only one diff to regear giving the weight your adding probably going to do it

    I drive 2 mins to school and 13mins from work. So i don’t drive a whole lot…. that’s why i was thinking about 35’s and a 3 1/2in lift?

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

It seems to me you are looking at numbers (35's & 3-1/2" lift) rather than needs. Have you actually found yourself in a situation where this combination was needed?

You may well be able to achieve a look that you like while doing much less expensive & invasive mods to your truck. As others have stated here nothing is free, 35 inch tires may look cool but might not much fun to live with on a daily basis. Acceleration, braking, handling and fuel economy will all take a big hit.

There are thousands of pictures here, spend some time looking & reading. You might find you can achieve a look you like and that serves your needs for less money and have an overall more functional truck too.

Study first - spend wisely.

would running 285/75-16 be a better option and running a fox lift
