I test drove both 2010 2.7 with 5 speed and 4.0 with auto. V6 was fast but I was quite surprised how much pull 2.7 has with 5 speed. I would've bought 2.7 if they offered it in Double Cab back then. I ended up buying a used 02 Prerunner.

I think you can tell with all the replys how good the 4 banger is. I've had atleast 5 and everyone of them I took over 150k. The 5sp helps for long hills for sure. I drive 104miles round trip to work on the interstate. I set my cruise on 72 and get 21 mpg with a k&n filter in the stock airbox. Mine a 4x4 too. If you change your oil rotate those tires you will never regret a thing. My wife has the same 6cly in her 4runner that comes in the tacomas an it does great on mpg with the cruise set too but if it breaks it cost twice as much. Not saying it will break but the 2.7 is tried and true and won't let you down. Good luck hope you enjoy your new toy!!!

Once my engine broke in and I got use to it from a V6 I haven’t had any regrets for having a four cylinder. I now have a 2006 Tacoma Regular Cab 2WD, auto. It gets 21-22 around town. I am now in the process of getting a 2011 Regular Cab 4WD, auto. I did made sure they changed the differential from a 3.58 in the 2WD to a 4:10 in the 4WD.

From what I have read is that close to near vertical on the piston angle produces less friction. A V configuration has side angle trust producing faster wear on the rings and cylinder. Toyota built there reputation with a four and other manufactures have many miles also on their inline fours and sixes.
