No regrets from me. I wish I could have gotten 4WD but couldn't afford it though... Next truck will definitely be 4x4!

NO.......I forgot to say NO, wait......I mean, NO $^#$^(&$(*@ WAY, NO!!

In your head it sounds to me like you "wanted" a bigger truck and you might feel somebody/dealership "sold" you a smaller truck?! I Dunno..... ANWAY, Do your own research but several points don't add up......

    1. A Tundra for the same equipment is going to be A LOT more $$$, NO WHERE NEAR $29K!

    2. Whoever fed you the line "it gets the same/similar MPG" is totally out in left field! It's a HUGE misunderstanding that "full size trucks get similar MPG to small trucks", totally WRONG!!! It might show it on a window sticker but nowhere is that the truth! Here is what real people are getting for MPG on the Tundra--> http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tundra If you notice, average 16MPG. Now go to the Tacoma--> http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tacoma The average is 2-3MPG better with the Tacoma trending 18-22.

If you feel you want a BIG truck for, ego, use, actually towing something big, bigger seat, or that feeling your like the next American then go for it! Years ago Dad said, it's a waste of money and space if you don't use a big truck for what it's capable for. I still believe him.

Unless you need it, your Taco can do 97% of a big truck plus save you money!

P.S. I hope I didn't hurt anyones feelings because I don't mean to flame throw. I truly believe people go big on trucks because they don't like the image of small trucks! Please don't hurt me......:D

Thanks to everyone for their input. My current truck is a 07 VW GLI which is a great daily driver but misses the mark when going to Costco, Home Depot and never mind mud, snow, dirt roads, camping, dogs etc.

I'm shopping for a 2010/2011 TRD DC but worrying about the whole Taco vs full sized trucks. So hearing Tacoma owners regrets and lack there of helps.

I just sold my Jeep Grand Cherokee for my 2006 Tacoma Double cab long bed. All I can say is, I have no regrets. I love this truck. It does everything I could ask for. I am sold on these things.

It's a waste of $$$ to buy more truck than you need. If you need full size for get it...if not the Taco will be much easier to live with on a day to day basis.

I have a few regrets because i bought the first year of the second gen. It has issues! Manual Trans has issues, squeaky springs, rattles, major interior water leak the first day i got it off the ferry. I bought used but i didn't do enough research on these trucks...shoulda gone with a Titan.

If you've got 40K to spend. I think id rather get a loaded tacoma 4x4, TRD Off Road, JBL Audio and etc.

Then use the remaining money for mods :D

But with my 08 PreRunner, my only regret is not getting 4x4 or atleast an LSD.

I owned two 1GEN Tundra 4.7 V8s. One was 2004 full four door, the first released in the Tundra. The other was a 2006 Access Cab. Both TRD.

The mileage in both 1GEN 4.7s is comparable to my 2006 Tacoma 4WD. The engine was super smooth. The 04 had a 245 hp 4 spd auto. In the 2006, Toyota upped the hp to 282 with a 5 sp auto & vvti.

I put over 30k on each truck. My Tacoma, on the other hand fits me better, but I have to say I liked some of those creature comforts the 1GEN offered not available for some reason in the tacoma model which is kinda a bummer.

As far as getting a 2GEN Tundra over a Tacoma? No way. The newer generations just are too much truck for my needs. If I were going to go back, it would be a nice babied 1 GEN.

my only regret is not saving more for a 4x4. Other than that, couldn't be happier with my purchase.

2010 here... I thought hard about getting the Tundra because I plan on buying a boat and was afraid the Taco might not be able to tow whatever I get. After driving it though it's too big for my day to day tastes. I love having a truck, but not for any specific need. I will own a boat soon, but I will buy my boat according to the limitations of my Taco instead of the other way around. I can only use the boat 4-5 months out of the year, while the Taco is a year round thing.

Love the Tacoma. Used to drive F-150's but my Wife drives a Toyota and it's been really good to us. What it came down to was me wanting a truck and not needing a full size. If it was between a F-150 and a Ranger I would go with the F-150. Thanks God it wasn't because the Tacoma Prerunner looks better, sits higher and just fits in my garage  Some days I wish I would have gotten the 4x4 but that's just becuase I would like the option. I don't have any need for it and it would have costed more so I didn't go for it.

On my second Taco...of course considered a Tundra, but they are so friggin' huge. I love my '10 Magnetic Gray Double Cab SR5. My only regret would be not getting the TRD.

I hear you - in my six months of truck shopping I finally came to the conclusion that the Tacoma would fit all my needs without paying for more than I cared to. I like the F-150 XLT and Lariat packages - but I couldn't justify the price for the packages. The Tacoma fit everything I wanted and was a great buy at the price I got it for ($15k out the door :D ). When it comes time to get another truck in the future I will try the F-150 again, but I hope the price is closer to the market instead of the other way around. Until then - I'm loving my Tacoma.
