    Hey everyone,

New to TW. Thanks for the add. This has probably already been discussed in the depths of the forums somewhere but not too sure how to filter everything. I just got a 2014 Regular Cab Taco with standard bed and I am looking to get a camper shell for it. I would like to get one with a bit more head room (Leer 122 or Snugtop hi-liner), but it doesn't appear that those models are available for the regular cab?? At least with what I can see online. Any pertinent info on whether the access cab models will fit my reg cab?

    Thanks!!

    Zach

Your best bet is to go to the dealer. What it really comes down to is that the cap they make for any of the six foot toyota beds will fit yours as long as it is the right generation. I was finding the same problem when I got mine and the folks at the dealership put it all to rest.

I went with the ARE MX mid rise series. It has cross bars on the top of the cap that come off in seconds if need be. The Mid rise is the way to go for sure. That extra 6 inches of head room makes all the diffenerce when you are putting a bike in the back of the truck, sleeping in it etc. Mines also has sliding side windows vs the vent out option and it has a slider behind the cab and thats nice because dog sticks his head in or I can toss stuff back there as needed. I added the light in the cap as an option. Its worthless some LED's would have been better. It also has the carpet liner and thats great for keeping a bit of the cold out, and soaking up condensation when camping. I wish I had gotten the flip up windows on the side but they were damm expensive. I spent just north of 2 k as it was.

Worth every cent. It has been on for 4 years now and has help up wonderfully. It has at least ten k of off road time and has littel wear to show for it. its a heavy pig but I attach some ropes to cross bars and pullys and I can yank it on and off my self if need be.

Great Tim, thanks for taking the time to respond. That's all great info. I'm considering camping, my dog, and getting my bike around as well. I was actually looking into that ARE over my past few days of research. I'm going to head to my local dealer and see what they recommend as well, but the MX looks sweet.

The first set of pictures (white tacoma) show a regular cab shell on a DCLB, which has the same type of cab configuration as an Access Cab. The red regular cab has a shell from a access cab or DCLB installed on it. There is a difference, just letting you know so you can decide for yourself.

Copy that, thanks for pulling those up.... I went to my local dealer and narrowed down my options. I think i'm going to go with the ARE MX which has a design to fit the Regular Cab. I guess it has to do with the curvature of the access and double cabs, while the Regular cab is much more straight up and down (more of a 90 degree angle). This causes discrepancies when trying to utilize a camper designed for the other and vice versa.

That is correct about the curvature of the cabs. It's really noticeable when you put a regular cab shell on a AC or DCLB.

Hey Zach. Leer makes 2 models for your truck. The Legend and 180R. They are both made from the same mold however the Legend has more fiberglass that comes down the side of your truck to almost make it look like the Cab and canopy are one piece. Snug Top only makes the Cab- Hi model. They are a bit cheaper than an A.R.E but your still going to spend at least $1700 to $2k depending on your options. Such as carpet lined, sliding front/side windows and so forth.

    Hope this helps you.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
ARE says it wouldn’t fit mine but I’m ok with it being a little tight at the roof428714C9-9174-4A15-85B8-22FA8F8BA866.jpg
