    Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE)

Basically the shorter the wheel base of a vehicle, the higher the fuel economy it will have mandated by law in a few years from now. Based on the weight and length of a regular cab Tacoma, you'd need to get +40 mpg by law by 2018. Toyota isn't going to waste there time trying to develop that for 10 percent of there customers, so they killed off the regular cab.

That's also why new regular cab full sized trucks will probably only come with extremely long wheelbase designs.

When I was looking at Tacoma's a week ago there was a 2014 RC for sale. If I didn't have a family it would have absolutely been the one I got. Something about RC's that I love. Old-school cool or something....

Toyota can spin it all they want. But it boils down to 2 reasons. #1) Smaller profit margins and #2) CAFE ratings. So Toyota will say "it didn't sell well". My particular dealer told me that they sell every regular cab they get very quickly...regardless whether they are autos, manuals, 2wd and 4x4. At least GM had the balls to say the new Colorado wouldn't offered in a RC because of the CAFE ratings and not some other reason.

Not being able to buy a RC wouldn't necessarily keep me from buying a future Taco, as nobody else will offer one anyway. But I'm so glad I got my '13 when I did!
