So the altitude makes that much difference I guess. That's crazy. I have no experience with that. Humidity, on the other hand, I know that bullshit well. Ha Ha.

Glad you had a safe trip. Thanks for the insight.

Mapped FS 200 for TrailsOffroad Sunday and Monday. I didn't really know what to expect and was quite surprised by the scenery. I ended up cutting a dozen or so trees out of the way. Some need more than a single pass for my 14" bar to make it through but it did the job.

There was still a handful of snowdrifts left but nothing caused any issues. The snow was super soft so I cut right though it.

Set up camp not 50 yds from the overlook. There was a slight breeze before I went to bed but during the night there was nothing. I've never heard the forest so quite. It was kind of eerie.

I really need to do my fuel filter as well. Probably all the other things you are doing too but i'd be afraid I would fuck up this close to Moab.

Haha you still have a few months to get it figured out. I have no idea what I'm doing really but my valve cover leaks so I have reason to pull things apart. My fuel filter just happens to be in a tough spot under the intake plenum so I just figured I'd do it while I have half of it apart.

I probably should relocate it but I probably won't do it for another 200k. Ive heard it's possible to do through the wheel well though.

Got the new fuel filter in after searching around for a crush washer that was lost in the abyss. Only to find new ones in the box...

Popped off the valve cover too. Doesn't look to bad for having 230k on it. Anyone have any suggestions on cleaning it up? I'm guessing if I just wire brush it and change the oil it won't harm anything having dirt fall down in?

I also think my ticking was coming from a bad egr gasket. You can kind of see part of it is black all the way to the edge. Still up in the air if I should just delete it or not.

DO NOT WIRE BRUSH anything inside the motor.it will make its wa to the oil pump and possibly clog the pick up screen.
That looks good for 230k I don't see anything that looks bad
    ( maybe I can't see it)
But if you need to get sludge out of a motor, a good shop vac and a scrapper work well.

There is some sludge near the timing chain but it's not too bad. Good thing I posted lol

Well, just got done checking valve clearances and only cylinder 1 checks out. 2, 3 and 4 need reshimmed on the exhaust side.

The intake side were all within tolerance but varied from one end of the allowance to the other. Should I do these as well to get them the same?

I might decide to do my timing chain while I'm in here too as far as I know it's never been done.

Measured my exhaust shims today. Decided it would be easiest to just pull the camshaft off instead of trying to futz around sliding them out from under the lobe.

I used a magnet to pull the bucket and shim out then a razor blade to pop the shim out of the bucket.

Made a quick spreadsheet to figure out what shims I need to order and which can be used in another spot. I used 0.30mm to calculate since it's right in the middle of the tolerance of 0.25mm - 0.35mm.

    Screenshot_20170718-195545 by Ryan Heintzelman - Flickr2BBcode

I rounded down to smaller shims since these motors tend to get tighter as they age. Anyone know why? I would think they would get looser from wear but I'm still learning how an engine works and without pulling more of it apart I'll never know haha

Decided to clean my intake and throttle body in the kitchen sink. The single life has its perks!
