I think I'll still have room for a 2 gallon air tank in front of it, if not a 1 gallon should definitely fit.

Oops @cynicalrider I read your post as air tank not aux tank.

Hahaha I saw but no worries, ideally I would put in my second battery there and an aux tank but the second battery will probably just be easier to have in the bed. Weight distribution wise, it would be nice there though. I'm all about solutions like this dude, especially since I don't plan on ever running a swing out either. I'm also dreaming up a bigger camp table integrated into my tailgate too.

I've pondered putting a fuel cell there too but I'm not sure how often I'd actually need it. Once I get a better idea of how far I can travel in the backcountry maybe I'll reassess my assessment on the matter. But for now 10 extra gallons that I'll likely never use will do.

One of my bucket list items is Prudhoe Bay, AK. Fuel stations are pretty sparse from my understanding. Not sure if 10 extra gallons would be enough or not. I'll cross that bridge when it comes.

I was just think on Tuesday while I was using my grill on the tailgate. How cool would it be to have extensions that slide into the side of the tailgate for more room and convenient storage.

Yeah I definitely am not in the situation yet where I will need it, but I am hoping that day will come one day. I'll only be carrying a spare 5 for Moab, since my other jerry will be a 5'r for water.

Though I don't like using my tailgate because there's always something in the Wildernest that I need and the grill is blocking it.

That sliding idea sounds slick. Didn't think of that. I was thinking of having a two piece folding setup that folds over the tailgate when closed, and when tailgate opens, folds out and locks. Would need hinges that can handle the weight of the tables free floating like that though. Or folding legs. And the reason why I wanted it to be a two piece setup was that you can only unfold one side if you want and have an L kind of setup.

I'd like another for potable water but don't want it under the bed. Too much of an annoyance to access.

How far past the tail gate are you looking to extend?

After romping around in the sand the other day my half asses platform was all scattered around so I'm thinking I might make a big drawer that slide out maybe 3 or 4 feet past the tail gate and could use that as a table but that'll probably make access into the Wildernest a pain.

This convo got my brain turning hard and would solve both our issues a lot more elegantly. The tables would need to be on a special kind of hinge though. Basically a kind of like a piece of metal with a curved track to make this work. The hinge can be bigger than shown and act as a support too.

    Something like this:

Hmm I wonder if you could stack another piece that would swing out beside the bed.

Instead of the hinge you could put a bolt in the corner as the pivot and cut an arc a few inches away with another bolt acting as a guide. Snug the bolt down with your fingers and it should keep it from pivoting more.

You mean like route an arc into the the table itself?

Yep. Not sure I have the tools to make a clean arc though.

Made some hinge mounts for the Jerry can holder out of my blown OME shocks. I probably don't need grease but why not? Lol

Step bit couldn't handle drilling the holes for the bolts so I'm done for tonight. Hopefully I can get the holes drilled tomorrow at work and have it finished tomorrow night.
