It didn't last long. Too many rocks scratched it. It also didn't last long on my grill. The sun faded it and it began to peel. It's great if you want to try a new look but it's far from permanent.

Pulled more apart today. My entire intake is coated in oil. I'm guessing it's likely because I haven't emptied the catch can in quite a while since the valve handle disappeared... I would think this would have caused me to just dump oil everywhere. The oil I drained looked fine. Though I suppose it there was water it would be ice and not drain...

Gave the oil return line a close inspection and I can't tell where the small leak is coming from there since I installed it. Ordered a new kit to make my own line. Hopefully that will fix that.

Found this kind of odd when I pulled the turbo blanket off. (Pic won't upload right now for some reason.)

Planning on removing the rest of the intake to clean it and also remove the valve cover and check valve lash. Then compression and maybe a leak down test if compression is worse than it was 2 years ago when I last checked the valve lash.

After pulling things apart, my conclusion is that the pcv/ccv lines froze, which in turn blocked the oil returning to the pan and pushed copious amounts of oil through the turbo. The reason the lines froze is because I haven't emptied the catch can in months due to the valve handle disappearing. Lesson learned.

I'll need to find some silicone heater hose to replace the turbo water lines. The current rubber ones wouldn't have lasted another year.

Also this plastic T wasn't far from having the same fate as the one at Goose did. @Squeaky Penguin your brass T served me well. Finally found some steel replacement T's.

Checked valve lash and found 1 on the exhaust side and 2 on the intake side to be out of spec. Decided to order the SST for removing the shims since it would be a pita to pull the intake cam off. Naturally it was cylinder 4 that needed the work and the most difficult to access. IMG_20200205_153218.jpg

Put the cover back on and went to pull a plug and discovered that there was an inch and a half of oil sitting in the tube. I'm hoping it was just getting pushed past the seal and it'll be fine now that the vents aren't clogged. Hopefully by the time I go to start it that oil drains past the piston rings so I don't bend a rod...

Installed some cheap LED tube lights in the garage so I can actually see to work on things now. Definitely nice not having shadows everywhere.

Yup. Good time to get some new valve cover seals in there.

They don't have to many miles on them. I replaced them 3 years ago. Going to let them there for now. If they continue to leak I'll pull the cover and replace them but I think it was just one of the paths of least resistance from everything being pressurized.

Depending on your pcv setup, which I don't remember how it is, if you have it in a vent to atmosphere style, it wouldn't be pressurized. There are other routings as well, which would take away the pressurization, without being vent to atmosphere. All which should completely alleviate that issue.

It's vented back into the intake. Not a big fan of how the crank case fumes smell. Me not emptying the catch can causing water to freeze and clog any venting that should have been happening was the issue.

I know you still don't have a method of tuning, have you looked into the Apexi SAFC 2. It's a very tunable fueling controller with knock response. It's affordable too. Might be a good stop gap before a standalone

I haven't looked into anything to much yet for fueling. If I'm understanding that right it changes the afr signal so that the ecu thinks it's running lean therfore adding fuel?

Thought I had the turbo problems figured out but apparently not. Pulled it off and found very light scouring on the turbine shaft. There not enough play to cause the blades to contact the housing but it's enough to feel. There was quite a bit of oil sitting in the compressor side housing. Plenty of oil on the exhaust side as well. I'm hoping the problem is just a simple rebuild. Still more money than I'd like to spend right now. Did find a crack on the manifold as well. Easy fix I think. Pipes are stainless but the welds are not.

Debating if I want to revert back to NA and fix everything else so I can use the truck this summer or not.

Found moar crack too! o_O Passenger fender near the firewall.

I appreciate your efforts to go outside the box, but damn you spend a lot of time fucking around with that turbo.
