Well, guess this will be the final reason to relocate the battery. The 27F is too heavy for the fender and is collapsing it. Along with one of the water lines rubbing it it just makes sense. Not sure where I want to move it to. Under the bed seems like the easiest place. Hoping I can heat up the overflow bottle a bit and push it in to give the hose a little more room.

I didn't realize a 27F would even fit in the space. It's probably a good thing I didn't know. I went with a Northstar 24F and it's a heavy mofo at 61#. Now I'm afraid to look underneath it.

What is the weight of your battery?

 

68 lbs. I wanted the largest capacity I could fit. I personally don't see any reason to add a 2nd battery. I'm either driving and it's charging or I can put out the solar panel during the day. Hoping lithium batteries start to come down in price by the time this battery is dead. 17lbs sounds a lot nicer.

 

Such a good fit with that heat exchanger. Really impressed with that.

 

Almost like it was made for it. Got lucky for once.

 

be curious to see how effective it is if you have that ability to measure.

 

It's ice cold after driving. Kinda weird putting your hands on it and everything else around it is hot.

Best I could do to measure is with a IR gun but I can't seem to find it. Eventually I'll put an intake temp probe in.

Made some progress on my battery relocation. Just need to figure out how to secure the battery. Anyone know of a 27F battery box? I designed my own but it came out to $300 and thats a little hard to swallow for something nobody is going to see. Probably just going to end up beefing up the factory hold down and getting some all thread through the bed floor.

 

Lot of options online for that.

Or just weld up some 1.5" angle for a bottom and make a top bar with long bolts. Should be easy to make one for like $30

 

Yeah make a frame with some angle iron, couple tabs, and a strap bam. And because the bed is such a thin metal, try to tab it off of the bed mount under the bed and bolt it to that.

 

Haven't seen one that is 12.5x6.75x8

I don't think its centered enough on the crossmember to work.

 

You can buy all the material at Home Depot besides the flat plate which isn't necessary really if you cut the angle iron w/ a mitre at each corner.

 

I've got the angle sitting in my garage to do that. Would rather not add any more weight than I have to though. The bed is already F'd so if it starts pulling through the floor its not a big deal. More motivation to get started on the flatbed then. It didnt move much when it was in the fender and I think with a proper fitting strap across the top to keep it from rotating it'll be good enough.

 

If you built a small wood platform that sits within the corrugated bottom of the bed I think you'd help distribute the load much better and have less damage to the bed in that case.

But if the whole bed is getting tossed probably not worth the time it sounds like Half (more than half) of the time I spend on my rig is making all the og stuff keep looking like factory. That's more OC than is healthy lol.

 

Oh and a sandwich plate on the bottom of the bed never hurts

 

This is the kit I used. Very sturdy and definitely not heavy.
