It's less Tacoma and more mod
You can do MAF post turbo, it's a common arrangement, but it needs a flow straightener usually. Most OEMs nowadays have it post turbo as well

Shitbox continues to be a shitbox! Showed up to Moab and the front actuator decided to quit working so I had no front locker. The ARB (AlReadyBroken) rear locker would pick and choose when it wanted to work. Discovered all of that at the bottom of wipe out hill. Winched up that and proceeded to follow the group through Pickle and did some more winching. Glad I had a fat 2nd gen for an anchor.

Ran Fins and Things with some friends from Idaho. Many it was there first time and on slick rock so it was fun showing how steep a truck can climb.

Dropped the trans skid and a majority of my ifs skid and pulled the actuator at camp. I found the brushes were stuck and not making contact with the commutator. A problem I had 7 or 8 years ago. Got that taken care of and reinstalled.

Ran Kane Creek with the Idaho group the following day. We unknowingly took a side track and ended up at a creek crossing with a vertical wall on the opposite side. Ended up pulling into the creek and backing back to the main trail. My driver mirror grabbed a branch and popped right off. Handful of zip ties and duct tape and it's good as new. Gave the Hamburger Hill ledge one attempt and pulled cable. Little more skinny pedal and I think I'd have made it but with that obstacle it's near impossible to get back on the line once your rear slides over. Watched a 4 seated side by side go down this obstacle and flop. It was easy enough to get him back upright.

The following day we ran Poison Spider. Truck again did well. No broken parts.

Shitbox survived Moab with minimal damage, now to Arkansas.

Decided to stay south and go through New Mexico Texas and Oklahoma to see something different. Climbing a steep grade in NM somewhere I was hearing an exhaust leak and then a burst of air like something blew on the intake. I pulled over and checked the vacuum hoses and intake couplers and couldn't find anything so I carried on. Last stop for fuel before I reached my destination in NWA the truck stalled as I was pulling up to the pump. I discovered my MAF Spectre adapter had come loose and was just sitting in the hole. Allowing unmetered air to pass. This explained some of the erradic fuel trims I was seeing. I also noticed it was warped but decided that was a problem for another time.

Made it to my buddies where I addressed the MAF adapter by drilling and tapping two more holes to keep it flat. 20240516_111302.jpg

Didn't take photos of the repair but it's flat and should not be allowed unmetered air in anymore.

So I continued on my journey to PA and somewhere in Missouri I discovered what that air leak I hurt was. The gasket between the turbo and manifold blew out. I was missing two nuts on one side causing a massive exhaust leak. I tried to source some oem exhaust nut but didn't realize oem is 1.25 pitch not 1.5 that my studs were. While I was trying to get nuts back on I discovered that my front driveshaft had caught my ADD actuator harness and has ripped it to shreds.

    20240519_101129.jpg

Limped the truck another 1000 miles to my parents in PA where I could address the manifold gasket and hopefully make the trip back to Idaho. Should be an interesting trip back to Idaho...

Oof. Reminiscent of all the exhaust leak issues I've encountered over the years.
I tried a lot of different thing but double nutting all of hardware south of the head manifold studs has done the trick for me.

Considered it. Don't have enough stud left currently though and I'm not sure there is enough room. Considered pinch nuts as well but Ace doesn't carry them in metric.

Lots of different anti-vibration hardware to try, but they're not commonly available at hardware stores.
    I'd give these a try

Glad I could be your anchor on the pickle. It was a good time. It was good to see you and spend some time on the trail.

The trip east was just as exciting as the one west... Lost a corner light somewhere in Ohio. Bulb was still attached so I just ziptied it in place. Just missed some tornadoes in Iowa. Front diff is leaking at the pinion, wires may have damaged the seal. And around Rock Springs WY I started having afr problems. In closed loop ltft were above 35% and as soon as I'd hit open loop things would go stupid lean. Not good especially with boost. I was able to stay off the highways and out of open loop to make it home. I'm leaning towards a fuel issue because my fuel light and gauge read empty when there is 6 or 7 gallons left.

Pretty sure the headgasket is leaking again. I have went through about a quart of coolant in the 6250miles and can't find an external leak.

Beginning to think this thing is destined for a trailer and dedicated crawler duties soon...

I’m having front actuator ptsd. Such an odd thing to never want to show up in the desert.

Added another shitbox to the fleet. This one much less shitty than the taco or T100. Should be considerably more comfortable for my dog and daughter and pull my boat easier. 216k 05 Limited. Going to keep the mods to a minimum for awhile.

$6500 most 05-07 Limiteds seem to be pretty close to 10k.

I did sleep on one in Missoula that had a GFC on top for a similar price.

I've heard that one before. :bananadead:

Needs 33s, a costal bumper or two, and some suspension at least. :boink:

You wouldn't want to get stuck in a creek in Wyoming, would you?

I could start pillaging from THE shitbox and have a situation where it just sits for eternity like another build I know of...

Not a bad way to view that.

I should just park mine in the yard, throw the Nest up and charge $500 a month for rent.
