Ok, dang it. Did not know that. It fits ok, just had to use larger stainless washers. Easy fix
    Thanks for pointing it out.
    Cheers

For length. Only a couple actually would start in the nut-zerts, if just using your plate, everything worked great. When adding the OEM plastic, I found I had to use longer fasteners. Home Depot had them, surprisingly enough.
No complaints or issues on my part.

i had to put my tailgate cap over the oem skin.

i put the tailgate cap in between the replacement skin and OEM skin, screws didn't fit flush. put tailgate cap on the top made a big difference

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
Got my ribbed tailgate skin + cap in today, and installed them right away.

As already stated, if you plan on using the OEM skin on top of the Mobtown skin, 3 centering tabs must be removed from the OEM skin first. I used a hacksaw blade and took them off in seconds. The Mobtown tailgate cap must be installed over the Mobtown skin, but UNDER the oem skin(if you plan on reusing it).

It also should be noted that since the Mobtown tailgate cap sits much more flush to the tailgate(aka lower), it may affect the seal on some folding tonneau covers. To me, really isn't a big deal. The strength is worth that slight drawback IMO.

Overall, GREAT products by Mobtown. Very satisfied customer here. I got the hardware kit too, but I will be installing all that at a later time. The OEM fasteners will suffice for now, but the Mobtown hardware kit has MUCH better fasteners for sure.

when i initially put the tailgate skin on i put it ribbed side down. so when i screwed it back in i was a bit bothered the screws weren't flush (top to bottom: OEM -> cap -> steel). ended up putting cap on the top (cap -> OEM -> steel) and the screws went in much tighter. @Mobtown_Offroad let me know ribbed side should go side up. so today i flipped it, and put it back together in same order (cap -> OEM -> steel). with the ribbed side up the cap felt very loose even though the screws were in as far as they're going to go. so i changed it again where the order goes OEM -> cap -> steel. now the cap is very solid (damn that thing looks good). but the screws aren't as flush as i wish against the OEM skin. the OEM cap has dips/grooves so the screws don't stand higher than the plastic. i did buy the hardware pack from @Mobtown_Offroad just haven't had a chance to drill in the holes where the inserts go. will probably do that in a few weeks to see if those screws provided sit tighter to the OEM skin. also after flipping the ribbed side up i notice the space between tailgate and truck on left side is a bit wider than right side. can't remember if i noticed it while ribbed side was down.

Overall. i'm very happy with this product. that cap... damn that thing looks good. my tailgate feels like it has some weight to it finally.

one more thing... on my 2015 i didn't have to cut any plastic off the OEM, it fit right on top of steel w/nothing sticking out of the OEM skin.

I just received and installed my Mobtown Offroad tailgate skin, and cap. I ordered the non-ribbed version of the skin, and the upgraded hardware. I reinstalled my OEM skin on top of the Mobtown skin and cap. Everything looks great! I'm very happy with this purchase. The tailgate has some heft to it, and it feels much more solid now.

    Thanks Mobtown!

+2, same setup on mine for some time now and diggin it. I may have to go with the cap with oem skin over it. That may tighten up the seal from cover to tailgate. I don't run the stick-on seal the cover came with so there is a 1/16th gap.

    Here's a couple of pics:

Like I said, I'm very satisfied with the final install. My tailgate was already pretty tight in the stock configuration. Adding the reinforced skin made it even tighter to the point where it wouldn't close properly. I read where another TW member drilled a hole on both sides of the OEM skin for the rubber stops to nest in when the tailgate is closed. My tailgate closes just fine now after drilling those two holes.

Hmmm, I thought it was just from it being tighter across the bottom.

Question, my tailgate was bent and I can easily bend it back straight. Do I need a new tailgate? or can I install this on an already bend TG to prevent future bends.

Depending on how bad the bent tailgate is... Lay a straight edge across the tailgate and measure from that to the point on the tailgate that is furthest away. If it is minimal, it would be okay. Let me know what that dimension is.

For all those who have orders placed for these with the free cap, we are very sorry for the delay. We normally ship all completed orders every Monday. With the sale we sold way more than expected and ran out of caps. But never fear, more are going through right now and we expect to have them ready to ship by the 29th!

As always, we are still taking orders so place one today for a $70 savings!

Is this offer still going on? If so, what is the code?

Just purchased my first Tacoma and don't want to risk bending the tailgate loading the bikes in.

    Thank you.
