I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
It will automatically re-lock if you unlock it with the remote, and then don't open the door within a preset amount of time, but it won't automatically lock after you shut it off.

No argument there, jury of peers only means other civilian folks. Never know what leanings they might have. Plus as the second example shows, the Halloween costume is a big thing that can be used.

Sure could, but mine (as most others) can also be sent to a computer/phone so even if you can't track the vehicle's location by it you will have a shot at getting some footage of the perpetrator.

Man, I totally get this. I've been known to get up in the middle of the night because I couldn't remember if I locked it, or in the middle of a rainstorm because I couldn't remember if I closed the sunroof and/or windows.

I have a company work truck that I drive during the week, and I press the lock button on my Tacoma every morning as I walk by.

If you are that forgetful you will soon discover a new problem with having a timed lock on your truck alarm - you will have to not forget your keys in the truck like I kept doing with a Carr system alarm I had in my 1st Gen- I had to disable that function on it eventually because I didn’t want to have to break a window to get inside if it locked up while I was camping somewhere remote and I left the keys in the truck.

I did end up gluing a spare key inside one of the wheel wells with black silicone glue. When it gets coated with dirt it disappears nicely.

Could you put something of low value but with an appeal to steal with an AirTag in it?

Lock the truck. That's the way everyone's always done it.
    Be careful about belongings.

See if there's a way to program, or install aftermarket, to auto lock it. Some cars have that.
    Other potential things may help.

Are they going to be caught, prosecuted, and jailed for a long time for a small amount of money? Probably not.

TLDR, seems the issue is easily fixed by fixing the problem of not locking the door. Being an insufferable prick seems to be an easy thing to remember to do when someone says lock your doors. But, I'll say it, lock your damn doors. If you can remember to take out your valuables, hitting one button to lock the doors shouldn't be that hard to do. If it has been happening for years, the victim truly CAN be to blame. Saying ADHD is the problem is trying to pass off being lazy and inept.
Do you forget how to hit the brakes to stop and just blow through red lights and crash into traffic then say "oh, I have ADHD".

Well… give it a week, as they say.

Just got a neighborhood notification from Ring that 19 cars (and some garages) were broken into last night, in our sleepy little borough. Someone (cop/neighbor?) caught one of them and cops made an arrest.

So - does anyone have any recommendations on the slew of security camera offerings on Shamazon? Good, bad or otherwise. Other threads on this?

We have Blink cameras. We originally had the little ones that are battery powered but when the came out with their motion sensing spotlights with built in cameras I switched our 3 lights to those. If you catch them on sake they can be cheaper than buying similar motion lights without cameras at the big box stores. We also have their doorbell. Fortunately we started with them before there was a monthly fee so we're grandfathered in for free but if you pay you get some added features and more storage. These are the light/cams we have.

I never lock my truck. Simple solution - upgrade to a 1st gen - people will leave it alone :)

It ain't the truck, it's the contents they're interested in.

Came to say this. If you do, just don't take the law into your hands and go track it down. Call the police and let them handle it. The one downside is if the perp is using an iPhone, I think it'll prompt them and give them an AirTag tracking warning.

I would put one of my blink cameras in the truck to see the face of the thief and get a notification when they entered to catch him in action.

Catching up on this thread today, and when I read TJ’s post about Swedish fish boxers I literally thought this was some kind of very fancy dog breed I’d never heard of before. Holy shit I must be really tired.

FWIW, if you subscribe to the Toyota app, you will get a notification on your cell if you leave the truck unlocked.

It doesn’t take long to notify you. For example, I get the notification routinely when I’m unloading stuff from the bed (truck off, doors closed, but not locked).

As someone who travels a fair amount and leaves their truck at airport garages, it is also nice to check the app just to make sure you remembered to close and lock everything up (you can remote lock and unlock the vehicle through the app).

I still say a motion activated halloween decoration that flashes and screams left on the console facing whatever door he likes to enter would be awesome. Having a camera to video his reaction would have been icing on the cake.
