They don't even make an Access Cab Off Road Manual, so your perfect truck does not even exist.

Toyota sold 16K Tacomas last month. Last MONTH. 160K of them last year. To put that into prospective there are only 19K threads that have been posted in the 3rd gen sub forum! Sure, some have truly had issues, just like every other vehicle out there. How Many? Not many as a percentage of total. The ones who do post about their problems here do so multiple times.
I got a sport double cab six speed. Three months old, 10K miles in those three months and zero problems. That's only one data point but put my data point with the other 160K guys who bought their trucks in the past year. Everyone knows that when people have problems, the first thing they do is come to the internet to post about it. Just having so few complaints (compared to the total) posted here proves that most never have a problem. For a bigger data point, go talk to your local Toyota service manager and ask them about Tacoma problems. He has no skin in the sales side and no reason to lie.

Good luck. Life is short. Enjoy it!

Exactly. I had a Camaro before I got my Tacoma. If you were to believe everything on the Camaro5 forum... You'd know the car would blow the engine up after the warranty ended because "direct injection". They are so scared, they literally media blast their intake valves with harbor freight equipment.

    Just drive the damn thing.

I just rolled 28,000 miles and I've had no issues other than a seat belt assembly sensor which had to be replaced, and it was covered under warranty. Everything on my truck is functioning the way it's designed to function - drunk transmission and all.
