HaHaHa between reloading and patches you're going to be broke. I really only get to shoot once a month. I love reloading more than shooting sometime.

I love shooting my 45-70. I have several different loads to choose from.

In CA, on July 1, AB 711 (2013), is now fully implemented, meaning that the taking of any wildlife with a firearm requires California hunters to use certified "non-lead ammunition".

I've never loaded non lead ammo but I order some 6.5mm copper pills. I'm guessing they'll work but at the price of them, not a plinking round.

I didn't get into reloading mainly for the savings. If I did it would be at least 5 years before
I might start saving anything. See.... I have a problem where I can't just buy a couple things
to start, oh no. I have to buy piles of it. o_O

Probably going to buy a Rockchucker single stage for the larger caliber pistol and rifle loading.
Had bought a toolhead that will turn the Dillon into a single stage, works great. Kind of get
tired of changing it from progressive to single stage sometimes, is why am looking at the rockchucker.
Guy lives in Alaska and makes these parts for Dillon. Great work he does. Lot of nice
    upgrades.

I am thinking that reloading will help reduce my ammo costs after the initial purchase of gear n supplies.

When I shoot now, I usually put less than 125 rounds down range.
Trying to remove some old school training scars and develop better grip, presentation and trigger squeeze.

Rarely do a mag dump, well after I got freedom week outta my system that is.

I did the same thing. Have the full set up on Dillon 550 and after a few years of of using it, I bought a single stage Rockchucker. I love the Dillon but rarely use stick powder in it anymore. Dillon has the greatest customer service on the planet.

"See.... I have a problem where I can't just buy a couple things
to start, oh no. I have to buy piles of it. o_O" ... I thought you were talking about me.

I'm the same way. No mag dumps for me. Well once in a while. I'll take out 500 - 600 reloads out for the weekend and come back with 2/3 of that unused. I usually am shooting 6 -7 different weapons over the weekend. I have a SAA .45LC that's a blast that's goes out every trip.

    I did the opposite.

I started with a Rockchucker, learning and understanding the process. After thousands of rounds processed on the single stage, I upgraded to a 550. At the moment, I only to straight walled pistol cases on the 550 - but at a much faster rate! ;)

NO. The Dillon get all the ball and flake powders. Hand gun rounds. 30 carbine. I'm trying out some win 748 for 30-06 for the 1903 and Garand. The Dillon is more accurate with the ball powders in my opinion. People refer to it as drinking the blue kool-aid.
Leave the stick powders for the Rockchucker.

I started with the 550 only because I found 1 at a yard sale for $125 with 4 caliber changes along with the corresponding dies and 2 powder measures. This was 20 years ago but was a good deal back then. The best part was, a few years ago, I need some work done to the press and sent it to Dillon for repair. They repaired it and upgraded it to all the new features of the new 550 model and did not charge me anything for it. The invoice the sent back with a list of items They installed was about $375. So in the long run it turned out to be a great deal. This is why I always will recommend the Dillon.

    $125?!?!?!? What a steal!

I need to get some more calibers set up in my Dillon. That's good to hear about their customer service.

I have a Hornady LnL AP and a Lee Classic, and used to reload 38 Special and 357 Magnum. Now I do .45 ACP once in a while.

By far my favorite one to reload is .308, using 185 gr Berger Juggernaut and Alliant 2000-MR. I do this on the Lee, one at a time. I like to push the limits of the .308. My reloads do much better than the typical 175 SMK you can buy.

12" targets at 1000 yards are not a problem. Even 6" work well. I like to push it to 1300-1400 yards. Of course I could go with a bigger caliber, but I like the challenge.

My best was 1600 yards hits with 20 mph cross winds, but obviously luck played a large role. I never tried 1600 yards without crazy wind, so I'm really curious about that. The thing is that the only place to shoot that far is the desert, and at the place I go, the wind always picks up later in the morning. I would have to start shooting at 7am to avoid too much wind. This means sleeping there over night. Some day I'll do it...

I'll have to look into this combo of using 185 gr Berger Juggernaut and Alliant 2000-MR

Yeah, it does well. I forgot how much I use, I set it years ago... I think around 48 gr, for sure under 50. This is another thing I should experiment with.

It's a Savage 10 FCP-K, 24" barrel. The stock is custom, everything else is unchanged. The scope is a Bushnell HDMR Horus H59.

I don't have a need for anything fancier. Just like with my truck, I'm all about function over form. My shooting buddy is a former USMC sniper, who shoots a custom 6.5 Creedmoor and used to compete. He is impressed with my cheap rifle (well, not so cheap anymore after the stock + scope). I could get a custom .308 and get a few more tenth of inches out of it... but I just don't need them.
