There’s a reason Lee products have been around for many years.

Well the Lee Basher might have a point if your shooting at Camp Perry, doing the 1000 yard competition. Maybe using more expensive dies would pay off, but I don't and will never shoot at that distance. I wish there was a place close to me where I could try shooting out to 300 yards of so.

Anyone here reload for 300 savage. I'm looking for a reduced recoil load, good for maybe 100 yards for deer hunting. 4 spinal fusion surgeries and I'm wary of trying full power loads. I use Win 748 and IMR 4893 powders in my rifles. 130-150 grain bullets.

your comparing a factory load to a reloaded round using Lee dies ? only .003 difference, same bullet, brass, caliper pressure brass? try comparing one loaded with same brass, bullet one with crappy Lee dies and one with your big $$ dies
I use Hornady for my wildcat and Redding for my 6.5x284 both out to 1000 F-class
Lee dies for handgun no competion shooting there

I was able to find a little time and load up some 45LC.
250 with 200 gn lead and another 250 with 250 gn lead.

Drew a big game combo in Montana this year, and maybe a wolf I see one. These run Sub moa out to 200 with my .308. Wish I could find H4895 or Varget, but IMR 4895 will do, 168 grains running 2640 fps on a 22” barrel.

Looking good! Wanting a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 LC, it’s just not easy to find the right one.

I would like one too. Those are a nice firearm. These loads are for the SAA pistols I own. They lots of fun to shoot.

A truck forum isn't my normal place for these kind of things, but here goes. Have a 6.5x47 Lapua. Had a decent load with 130gn Bergers, but the short freebore on the rifle led to issues. dropping down to 120 Hornady GMX. Trying to figure a good starting point for loading. anyone got some thoughts?

it's a Savage that I put together. Criterion 24in 1:8 barrel. Been using RE17 for the 130s but debating between that and RE15 when I drop down to 120s.

Come on over to snipershide and ask. To be fair, even the truck part of the truck forum is full of shit more than not.

Anywho, did the short freebore cause you to have to seat too deep and cause a pressure issue? Without answering that, changing to random loads isn’t a solution without knowing why.

Some pressure issues. inconsistent with pressure was the hard part. with the freebore on the barrel, to keep the bullet from jamming into the lands, I had to seat the bullets deep enough that the base of the bullet was down just below the base of the shoulder on the case. I run base to ogive with pretty tight tolerance on my loads and still got pressure variations. moving to a lighter/shorter bullet so I have more freebore to play with for my loading.

    So, exactly what I said.
That being said, as far a projectiles are concerned, you know the gmx is a mono…and monos are longer than lead core…

The gmx is 1.404 base to tip, and the Berger 130 VLD is 1.31…it’s safe to assume base to ogive will be similar at best or maybe worst. I would consider bringing the rifle to a smith to ream out a little more, or look for a projectile that has a smaller base to ogive measurement, depending what you’re doing. Longer bullets as you’re probably aware will have better BC’s for long range performance, if that is important to you.

yah. I'm looking at all options. No local gunsmith, otherwise I'd have gotten it reamed out before. and OOPS. didn't look at the bullet length when I was looking at the Hornadys. back to the drawing board on that one. Been way too long since I had to research for a load. I'm slipping.
