I just installed a remanufactured Denso 130 amp alternator in my 07. I was under a time constraint and in my haste, realized that I neglected to tighten the battery terminal wire. What I did next is sooo stupid, but it proves that rushing leads to mistakes; I put a 10 mm socket on the terminal without disconnecting the negative battery cable - flying sparks! Such an idiot move!

On initial start-up everything seemed fine and the new alternator was steadily putting out 13.99 volts and I finished cleaning up my mess. When getting into the truck to back out of the garage I noticed the overhead light flickering a bit. I rechecked the voltage and it's now fluctuating between 12.99 and 13.99 volts.

Did I fry the voltage regulator?

It was probably bad from the get go. I can't tell you how often I see these "reman" units fail in short succession after install. It doesn't sound like you did anything that could had fried the alternator.

Same here, I've had several that were bad right out of the box. After the last one I swore I'd never buy a reman'd/rebuilt alternator again.

Thanks for the replies. I feel a little better anyway.

Any recommendations on where to buy a new alternator, other than Denso/Dealer?
