Yeah looks like you have a custom driveshaft with a single sized diameter tube. The stock tube should be flared, that one looks modified to allow for the driveshaft disconnect.

    Where you located?

I found the company it may have come from. Remco. Hopefully they can help us get a replacement parts! Thank you everyone for your help identifying the mechanism in question!

There’s a good driveline shop up here in the Bay Area where I got my driveshaft shortened if you end up lengthening it.

I don’t think it’s just welding new tube, it’s also balancing it. That’s why I went with a driveline shop.

I just installed on of these on my 99 prerunner. I don't understand how it could be noisy unless something is rubbing on the gear teeth. You can remove the mechanism around the shaft but you will need a stock drive shaft if you want to completely remove it. BTW, the drive shaft gearing and collar are very heavy duty, I wouldn't worry about them for normal street driving, I cant speak for off-roading. Remco (855-447-3626) is the right place to call. They have a good customer service department and the rep (Paul?) was very familiar with the Tacoma. It might be worth giving them a call. I have my old drive shaft if you are interested (live in texas)
