Why would/should SPC cover a 5 year old UCA? I’d be too embarrassed to even ask them a foolish question like that. He got 5 years of service out of it so it’s not like he didn’t get his money’s worth.
My insurance covers me anywhere, as long as I’m not off roading illegally. The tow truck will only go 100’ off the road then they charge more and it comes out of my pocket.

Because SPC offers a warranty for their products and that seems to be a failure that would be covered by it.

As far as an Insurance company towing the vehicle,
A Well Maintained normally traveled surface or roadway.
This definitely appears to be maintained and probably has a name for the roadway.
It's mostly up to the tow truck as to if they choose an out-of-pocket cost for additional labor
    or off road travel.
They have a contracted rate with the insurance company.
Sometimes that's 30 feet from a paved surface...
    Sometimes it's 100'
Some providers are well equipped and like the challenge...
Some, or most, won't do anything outside the insurance contracted rates...
It's always good to have cash on hand.
You can make anything happen with cash.

 Keep that balljoint secured and the tow truck should have no problem loading the truck.
the idea that you can move it a short distance is very good!
:burnrubber: Help is on the way. Keep your phone charged and ready for a call from the tow truck.

Good idea on the cash in hand. What would be a good amount to keep in the truck? $200-300?

I always carry that amount on Roadtrips.
Off road adventures I would carry $500- +

Lifetime? I thought it was 1 year, except when they were having problems and they gracefully extended it a bit further. I have the newest SPC’s and would love a lifetime warranty!

If you break down on the Golden Spike trail they won't come get you at all, They can't make it at least that's what the guide book said

It was a 2 year that got extended to 3 years. The failure happened at the bolt not the ball joint. This happened on the Golden Spike trail. I drove like this 6 hours to get off the trail

I'm home, tow truck driver was cool as hell and backed my truck under my awning and everything. Only cost $27 since I have USAA roadside assistance.

Whether warranty or not, I'll be buying some new UCAs asap, should I stick with SPCs or go elsewhere? I'm not soured on them based on my experience, but it did fail a bit prematurely given that offroad for me is usually just gravel roads. I swear my stiff ass OME kit doesnt help much either

Just order a new ball joint for the SPC they're like $60. You probably need to check the other side.
My ball joints don't last over a couple 3 years but I mange to fill them with mud if the boot has a tiny cut in it

Buy new style ball joints and replace both sides. Put a couple squirts of grease in them when they're new and a couple more once or twice a year. You'll be good to go for a long time.

Best to replace the BJ's with the updated greasable version.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/s...ment_Greasable_Ball_Joint_(PAIR)_-_25001.html

It was also common for the older bushings to bind, I replace mine with the newer version. Couldn't believe how bad the sleeves were bonded to the rubber, had to use threaded 1/2" rod, and big socket to press out the old bushings.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/s...acing_25470/25480_UCA's_-_SpecRide_25476.html

Good luck with the fix, at least you got her out of the bush safely!!

Most insurance will pay up to $100 for a tow. No one said anything about insurance paying for damages. And he is on a gravel ROAD, not off road. Getting the tow shouldn't be a problem.
