Nope. Did the same with my 01 tundra. When they inspected my frame the dealer asked how i kept it in such new like condition. Best they did was give me new gas tank mounting straps, and one of those spare tire frame crossover sections even though all was still good. :(

I've never heard of oil spraying a frame. Who does that service on vehicles?

Mine goes in on Aug 10th, I did the shwanky warranty thing so they are providing a loaner, they even promised me another truck for a loaner so it seems pretty painless. There are some other threads on here that call into question the quality of the chemical they use, but I only plan to keep the truck for another 5 years or so and then update again so I'm not too worried, just trying to protect resale value.

Use to be a garage in vermont that would coat the undercarriage with a thick oil. Guys here had their trucks done by them every year. Been a long time since so don't know if their still around. I always used fluid film on my tundra. In 19 years that frame was still good.

Thanks. I less than 2 weeks into being a Tacoma owner, so I'm learning a lot here. This forum is the first I've heard of maintaining/treating/coating a vehicles's frame. Still learning!

    Letter contains the VIN.

Would seem logical they did not mail all at once, but started with the oldest. Probably in batches to keep from overwhelming dealers with inspections.

I got my letter a couple of months ago and scheduled it 6 weeks out......Had it done this week, they told me it would take 5 days....I had my truck back in 3, Had a brand new Camry loaner for the 3 days. I asked if they had a lot of frames to do and they guy said they are booked through November already. I have my truck Krowned every year and the frame is still black and rust free....I even checked inside the boxed section with a borescope to be sure then hit it with a hammer:eek: Solid and rust free...really good for 6 years in Pennsylvania ( Salt and Brine used HEAVY here ). Without any type of rust inhibitor where I live 6-8 years and the frames are already shot on Tacomas. Will be taking it in in a few months for another Krown treatment.

The top companies around here are Rust Check and Krown, though there are probably 5 others. Rust check has a “thick” formula that does not drip, where Krown only offers thin which will drip for a few days (i wouldnt park it on a nice driveway until its done dripping). Used to cost 90, now its about 130. After having multiple old yotas rust out, the last two have been sprayed and are in significantly better shape. But honestly it works for any brand, my dad has been getting his 08 Envoy done for the past 10 years and its great underneath. My buddies 2013 silverado has not ever been done, and its getting rough. The electric things do not work, but spraying does.

if there is no one in your area, use Fluid Film as others mentioned, it is a great product.

I've had my frame inspected and now I'm waiting on the coating application. Checked in to the dealer and the service writer said everything has been put on hold because of this virus nonsense.

And it's not just the frames. My 2009 second gen sport has 100k miles and is perfect mechanically. But the frame and underpinnings are very rusty. Not enough to be replaced so I got the spray treatment. Luckily the body is made of better materials and is rust free.

But I just had a transmission cooler line rust out 2 weeks ago. Luckily I caught it while returning from a road trip when the trans started lagging and banging shifts... luckily the truck kept moving long enough for me to get it home. I made a temporary patch and have the parts on order. This sort of thing can be a trip ender and a big tow/repair bill depending on how bad and when you discover it.... especially since there is no dipstick or fill tube under the hood so you have to crawl under and use a 24mm socket and a pump just to top up the trans fluid.

Yes, we have snow some years and brine and salt on the roads. But I always wash the undercarriage with few fresh water a few times a year. And I NEVER had anything like this on even older Chevy trucks up here. I mean they were pretty much junk compared to my Tacoma in most ways but the underpinnings didn't dissolve. Has to be a materials issue.

Wonder why 17 and not 18, I doubt they changed anything on the frame.. Wonder if the 18+ owners will be covered in the future?

Someone mentioned it above but it takes 100 customer complaint reports first. It's likely only a matter of time before 18 is included

I own a 2016 I bought new, and have yet to receive a letter from Toyota. When did the letters go out?
Does this only apply in the “rust belt?”

    I wanted an MT.
I can’t believe Toyota hasn’t figured out how to solve the rust problem. Yet their trucks sell like hot cakes and the price just keeps going up. Maybe they did solve the problem... will be years before we really Know.
