It is important to understand the true meaning of Memorial Day. After flying in the Navy for 20 years and having 15 mayday emergencies, engine fires, cabin fires, etc, etc I still came back alive. It is not about those of us who made it back alive. It is about those who made the ultimate sacrifice who did not return alive. It is about those who will never again be able to experience their dreams and aspirations. It is about those who will never again be able to laugh and cry in life. It is about those who will never again be able to hold their loved ones. They are the true heroes. Greater love has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Now for the obligatory 3rd gen contribution. Currently, I have installed 33 mods to date and am working on 2 more mods at this time. This is a very costly website but not as costly as our freedoms.

Yeah this day is for acknowledging and being grateful for those men and women who died serving their country. There is so little reverence and respect these days but all should at least pause momentarily to reflect on what this day really means and be grateful for the bravery and sacrifice for those who did not return.

Being a naturalized US citizen I try to remember every day that the life I lead was made possible because this country took me and my family in many years ago, and because there are people willing to put their lives on the line to defend what this country stands for. As I write this my wife's grandson is on his way back to his duty station after a 4 week leave from the Air Force. Thanks to him and to all of you for your service, and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country.

I, too am a Naturalized US Citizen. Thanks to the USAF for accepting me for a second term as becoming a US Citizen was a prerequisite.

In the year I spent in Iraq--the transfer of American service member ceremonies were moments I reflected on those making the ultimate sacrifice.

We signed on the dotted line knowing that we could possibly not make it home. But seeing the honor first-hand during those moments solidifies our love of country.

Much respect to those who never made it home that gives us the freedoms we enjoy. God Bless the families who were affected by their sacrifice.

    Honor Memorial Day.

    Agreed and we'll said @skyking3

I myself a USMC Veteran but only served 3 years after being injured during a training incident . I wanted to stay but my injury forced me to get out

As you you mentioned and I agree that this day is for remembrance of all the military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country . This is a day not to thank a Veteran you see walking down a street or in a store , You'll be able do this on Nov 11th on Veterans day

So for those people who insist on going to parties , picnics or trail rides and enjoying their day off today . Please be respectful and thoughtful of those brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country

I meant no disrespect to you in any way. My neighbor is a 77 year old Marine who served in Vietnam. He has taught me a great deal about what it means to be patriotic and respectful to Veterans....both living, passed and lost in battle.

His words....."People have everyday to show appreciation to those of us who made it back....and they even gave us a day November (Veterans Day) for people to do so. But not on Memorial Day. That's not my day. That's not my day at all. That's for every man and woman who died in battle and all the families who were left behind".

It happens every year when Americans express their appreciation on both days--I was insensitive in typing "Happy" instead of "Honor" in front of Memorial Day.

As we appreciate the ultimate sacrifices made from those who came before us...to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in current world conditions; We say, "Thank You" and "We Honor You."
