I almost cried years ago when Jackie Gleason died. He was one of my favorites.

Yup, grew up watching Honeymooners reruns. Who but Jackie could get laughs threatening to kick his wife's butt?

Remember when you were young and you'd buy a car with mods was no problem?

Now I won't even look at an otherwise stock Tacoma with an auto start.

I started driving when I was 12. When I think back what I did I was a crazy fucking kid. Dad would come home from work at about 3:30pm in his '67 Buick Electra. Mom worked at a place in Illinois in Shaumburg called Wickes Furniture 'till 5pm. At about 4:30 Dad would pull out the '72 Ford Ranch Wagon and go pick her up from work and then I'd grab the Buick keys and take a joyride for about 15 minutes. I remember it was starting to become addictive to me because they wouldn't get home 'till about 5:30. I never got caught but when I think of the possibilities; a neighbor ratting me out, a cop spotting a young kid behind the wheel, hell any adult for that matter! Or Dad coming home and hearing the ticking of the exhaust or finding the hood still warm. These things never occurred to my 12 year old brain but I sure knew how to position that beast exactly the way Dad left it. But nobody ever tripped maybe because that huge Buick Electra wouldn't draw eyes to make the relation.
Shoot I was a good driver for a kid. Gave myself my own driver experience and when I was in high school the drivers-ed coach never questioned me but knew I had time behind the wheel:) He put me in charge of driving all 8 of the school's Chevy Caprices back into the shop stalls after each class. That was the coolest thing for me.
I miss the 70s folks. What a sweet era for a kid.

Back them it seemed like noone really cared as much. About all you had to worry about was the occasional well deserved ass whipping at home. I wonder if that is still a thing or has it been replaced with time outs.

You are allowed one swat on a fully clothed ass. No more paddles, belts, switches, book, or whatever mom and dad had handy.

I remember when all the trucks in my high school parking lot had gun racks in the back window, with a 30-30 or 30.06 and a couple of fishing rods in them. No one batted an eye. We all had knives in our pockets, sharpened pencils in class with them. Got in trouble for not cleaning up the shavings...

I always wondered if you don't spank your kid and just give timeouts, what happens if the kid says, "I don't think I'm going to do that timeout"?

My dad stopped giving me spankings when he figured out taking my bike hurt me 100 times more.
