Remember when

Only Time I got spanked was for when I pushed my Brother off the roof of the Garage and he got his arm fractured but that was payback for when I was riding my "Huffy" bike and he clobbered me with a 2 X 4 when I was going by.....so it was really worth it...

 

Needs to be a lot more of this.
But parents were all wrong back then according to whoever it is now..

 

My step mother beat the shit out of me on a regular basis. So I certainly wouldn't advocate hitting a kid. But the occasional spanking, when needed, isn't a bad thing. Luckily my 2 daughters never really needed it. Would have been tough for me to do that. I think I spanked my oldest 2 times...ever. The youngest never gave me a reason too.

 

Yeup same here. I think twice for my son also. He rest of the time I let him find out if your stupid, shit hurts. That was punishment enough.

 

I don't think it's so much about spanking as a general lack of discipline. I got spanked a few times until my dad figured out it hurt more to take my bike away.

Although at 16 I got the ass whacking of a lifetime for telling my mother to shut up...

 

Parents don't care much for shut up. Now that I'm a parent, I totally understand.

 

Add to this my mother is about 5 foot nothing, timid tiny lady, strict Catholic. She just dropped her head and walked out of my room.

My father on the other hand....

 

I talked back to my mother once, she said wait until your father gets home. I can still taste that bar of Ivory soap. You didn’t mess with with mom.

 

There use to be a lot of soap eating back in the day. I'm willing to bet the 20 somethings and younger have never heard of that. Or going outside to get a switch.

 

My son knows what it is.

 

My grandmother made me eat Zest once when I was about 6 years old. Don't remember what I did or said. Must have been bad because she wasn't normally much of a disciplinarian.

 

Probably just repeated what your Grandpa said

 

He died a couple of years before I was born. But my grandpa on my my mother's side? The stuff he said. Damn I miss him.

 

I ate the soap a couple of times..

I learned the taste of Lava soap, that made me think twice I tell ya. And a switch, if it was too thin, had to get another one.
