How about when you actually had to buy prizes with the money you won on Wheel of Fortune.

At a pay phone we used to call the operator (free, just twirl "O") and explain that you lost your dime in the phone before connecting the call and would you please connect me now ?

Invariably the answer was "yes of course" with a polite apology and you had another Mercury silver dime saved in your pocket.

    Please forgive me......

Works for old folks too !

I don't remember ever walking by a phone booth when I was a kid up-town delivering papers that I didn't poke my head into while sticking my fingers in the change return, fishing for a stray dime, nickel or quarter ! :)

Some days were more profitable than others !

I do a lot of surf fishing in south Jersey. I always grab a few pieces of trash, if not more when leaving the sod banks. I keep some contractor grade trash bags in the Tacoma for just this purpose...People are PIGS.

I remember this and at the time I was working for a family auto parts store.
The station we frequented did business with our store and we all knew each other.
He would pump us no matter what day of the week it was compared to our last plate number...

heh, heh, heh..... Man, did I feel like a Big Shot !

It also helped being a "regular" at a gas station where some friends worked.

I'm an old Scout and we were trained to always take more trash out of the woods than we brought in...

Out of habit, I carry those bags too but frankly the amount of trash I run into in the most remote places is staggering and I've taken to walking by it, muttering under my breath and refusing to be the world's garbageman. It would be a full time job !

I especially like the people who go to the effort to pick up their dogs sh*t and put it in a bag.... and leave the bag behind !

    Gggrrrrrr.....

My wife and I were discussing this last week, they don't teach cursive writing in school.

    Aren't signatures done in cursive?
