Heck in the early 70s you and your buddies could each chip in a buck for a tankful of gas, grab a pack of smokes and cruise around all night listening to tunes. Stop in at the Happy Swallow for a couple of frosties, play a couple of games of Pong and finish the night at Taco Bell all for less than $5.

Yup, shortages. I was 2-3 and remember my parents' cars having different days they could buy fuel. I'll never forget my mom having my dad's old Dodge one day and stations were just running out..she was a mess crying with me and my sister in the car panicking.

Yep, me as well. And my sister did get polio. She got through it; and became an amazing swimmer - because of all the time spent in the pool rehabilitating.

Also can add that we flew on reciprocating engine airliners. None of those snazzy jet powered ones.

DC-3, DC-4, Super Connie for the win! And on the DC-3s you had to climb up hill to get to your seat (tail dragger). There were only shelves overhead, not closing bins; but that held true even with the jet powered B-707 and DC-8. I think the B-747, in 1970 out of Tokyo, was the first one I saw with bins.

My kids were wrestlers… even my daughter up until 5th grade. My youngest boy won state and wrestled some in college. My middle boy fights in the UFC. So ya, kind of a crazy crew. Lol

I had a great-uncle, now deceased, who was a soldier in World War II. Many years later he was getting a routine doctor's exam and the Doc told him there were strong indications that he had Polio as a child. He never even knew it.

I'm so old that the songs I used to listen to on my 8-Track tapes are now being used in Laxative Commercials.
