...^^^... I learned to drive one of those ... it wasn't so bad the second time you used it (after you initially cut that little groove in the grass).

I actually wore out several of those little devils ... :)

If it was a new trim job with lots of grass and dirt in the way  ... it was a big job ... lol

Likewise but I was 9. She cried and shut it off when "it" happened.

I remember eating supper on TV trays in front of the TV set watching news footage of the Viet Nam war. Read the lists of dead GI`s in the newspaper, and wore a metal POW bracelet that had the name of a soldier captured by the North Vietnamese. Was in 3rd grade when Kennedy was assassinated. School was immediately dismissed and all sent home. Watched the funeral and saw Jon Jon on the steps with his mom. Remember watching Jack Ruby plug Kennedy`s assassin in front of a ton of deputies.

    Who remembers the "Draft Lottery"?
Did you get a number, and do you remember what it was?

I had gone to bed before the news was announced during MNF. I first learned of it when I opened my newspaper the next morning. It was just a totally shocking and unbelievable event.

I was in school, too. The announcement came over the PA when I was in Spanish class.

School could not send us home by district policy, as there was no guarantee that someone would be home to “let you in.”

Yes. My number was 325. Was in college at the time, so I canceled my exemption, which allows one year for you to be chosen by number. Hoped with such a high number, I wouldn't get drafted. As luck would have it, I didn't. Glad to not have to go to Viet Nam, but sometimes I feel guilty.

I think I was included the second year they did the lottery. I was in college at the time as well. My number was 337, so like you I was unlikely to be called up. I don't remember how many years they held that lottery, but it seems that it was just a few. I still have my "official" notification card with my number, but there isn't a date on it.

I was 6. Pretty sure it was on the news that it broke in my life first, but my mother was crying as she loved the Beatles in her younger years.

I was 9 when the first moon landing happened. We were glued to the TV. My mom saved the newspapers from that day. She also saved JFKs assassination newspapers. I was 5 and still remember watching her crying while it was on TV. I also remember the shootings at Kent State University. I was in the 6th grade and lived less than 2 miles from the campus. When we went back to school afterwards there was so much anger this had happened here. A lot of my teachers were young and very antiwar. After that my dad who was very pro George Wallace told me that he would take me to Canada himself if the Vietnam War lasted that long.

Saw the first step on the moon on a little b+w tv set. Had to be woken up and don't remember a dam thing about it.
