My second speeding ticket... On 17B in Sullivan County, near Yasgur's Farm. I don't know how fast I was going, but I was screaming uphill in my old Buick. Had a radar detector. When I reached the crest of the hill... BEEP! Too late. Trooper coming at me got me..

I had that exact setup in a tan 78 Chevy Impala "company car", passed down from my dad. He was a fan of getting the "police special", not the luxury models for his corporate vehicle. Claimed he was much less likely to get pulled over on his daily I-75 commute and sales calls with truckload of carpet samples. It looked like an unmarked LE unit... 305 FTW.

No great speeding stories... but it definitely went off a few times when I was way over the speed limit... those old speedos only went to 85mph, so when we buried the needle we were probably going well over 100... it would clock well past the numbers on the gauge.

(not my car, this is a 77, but you get the gist...)

Once I quit driving on the Interstates I was content to drive 55 mph or slower .

The high speed muscle car days were over!!

One time coming out of LA heading home to n California on hwy 5 I was driving my Vett and started racing kinda on off a Porsche . We both got pulled over by the CHP. I had been looking all over for the CHP but hadn’t seen any, I asked where he came from, how’d he catch us. He pointed up in the sky and asked if I’d noticed the Patrolled by Aircraft signs. The plane had clocked us and sent him after us. He took 20 + mph off our speed so we didn’t have to go to jail. That was a hefty ticket. After that I sold the fast cars and got into 4x4 trucks

I was driving a shitbox 78 Buick LeSabre with a 301-2bbl Pontiac in it. Torquey but slow. It was a miracle to be able to do 70 uphill. I remember climbing 5 mile hill on the Quickway at Wortsboro, and the car would constantly shift between 2nd and 3rd gear. It could go faster in 2nd uphill at 70, but once it got above 70, the transmission would shift into 3rd, and she'd lose speed... It was 2nd / 3rd / 2nd / 3rd...

Now I am more content going with the flow at a reasonable pace. No need to go over 60 on a two-lane blacktop unless I am out on a flat straight-away in the desert...

Back in 1987 when I got that ticket CHP didn’t use radar. (Not the case today) I thought I was pretty safe until I found out about the eye in the sky. My last ticket was 31 years ago, on Valentine’s Day by a very attractive blond female CHP who didn’t want to go out with me (I asked) and seemed not to have a sense of humor. I hope didn’t jinx myself

    minor tweaks
I quit using a radar detector after that mainly because my speeds were never excessive and I'd rather take my chances with my own ticket avoidance skills. I've found being polite, having your paperwork and vehicle in order plus not being the LEO's a-hole of the day gets me warning's far more then tickets.

Remember when trailer brake controls were hooked up to the brake master cylinder .

A steel brake line ran through the fire wall to the control mounted to the left under the dash.

you could also apply the trailer brakes alone by hand.

The brake light switch was connected to the control to operate the brake lights.

I installed many in those early days.

I still have my old Tandy (Radio Shack) tractor feed that I bought in 1990 but haven't used it in years. I doubt if I could find drivers for it these days.

You don't need a driver. A ten iron would work just fine.

30 years ago, a friend brought me an orphan Tandy RadioShack computer that was rescued from the bin. I can’t remember the model number, but it had something to do with games, like GRS-2? Or something like that…

It operated just fine but of course it was extremely primitive and there was absolutely no software available for this machine. People wrote their own stuff or bought what RadioShack offered, which apparently wasn’t much.

I gave it back to him after my analysis, and just told him to put it back in the bin; because it was worse than the worst computer he’d ever used in his life.

Was it like this? The TRS-80 Model 1 was the very first personal computer as we know them today.
