Remember when

I had a couple of “widows” that lived across the street, once in while they wood lock themselves out, I would go in through the milk shute and unlock the door, I was skinny, I got paid a $1, big money in the sixties

 

I had a guy that wouldn’t pay me. So I stopped taking him the paper. He called in and told the office I was a liar. I was 12. This went on for about a month back and forth with me losing. I finally told my Dad. I went over and asked the guy for all the back money he owed me and he cussed me out. But this time my Dad was standing out of sight listening. My Dad stepped up and beat his azz and dared him to call the police. That was the end of that and that dude never got anymore newspapers it was 1971.

We had milk boxes for years;
our back stoop with neighbors, friends, and family, 1968;
orange arrow points to our milk box behind the dork in the yellow shirt (me );

My mom had that milk delivery service growing up as a kid where the milkman would leave whatever you ordered in the basket or crate on the front porch. Her oldest brother, (my uncle) would flip the order tag from regular milk to chocolate milk.

Anyone remember buying cigarettes for.33 cents a pack and they taped the .02 cents change to the pack. Or gas wars, see who could get the lowest price and still make money, attendant would pump your gas and clean your windshield. Electric buses, Detroit Diesel put a stop to that

 

I remember when any young bad boy could buy a pack of cigs from a vending machine.

 

Every Denny's had one and they were open 24 hours.

 

Yup at the gas station..or when a younger person was working the station alone and wouldn't card you.

We had three, but at nite you could get NMU on UHF.

Gas station,bars ,restuarants, some stores & nobody cared who was buying.
