I made the mistake of calling a BBS that I thought was local... that wasn't. Oops.

When I was younger, I was going to prank call a pizza place in California, which is the opposite side of the country for me. It was press 2 for English.

BBSs could even dial up other BBSs to pass messages. Good times.

    Oh...early internet and BBS.
There were like 4 local BBS.
    One guy threw a party.
I'm not s geek or a nerd, but holy moly, that was the most boring geek-fest ever and no amount of alcohol made it sny better.
An entire bedroom was a wall of modems stacked on cinder block /2x8 shelves.
Tge phone line bundle coming into the house was about 8" in diameter and the phone company refused to run any more, for fear of pulling the end of the eve off the house.
    What a hoot.

that's a funny story - you're right about the air in the morning, i do fondly remember what it was like getting up early on sunday mornings - the papers were heavier and sucked, and getting up sucked, we would come afterward and eat choclate donuts from our local Super America gas station and then go back to bed. Those summer mornings were awesome because nobody was awake.

LOL I still remember whispering OUTSIDE, when giving my dad or my buddy directions when they helped with the route.

We used to go garbage can kicking on our bikes at 13-14-15. We'd ride down an alley and just belt the cans off the stands with a extended leg. I'd always whiff b/c I was laughing so hard at my buddies up ahead landing big strikes. The alley just echoing with the sound of rolling aluminum garbage cans.

FST was still pretty cool..Blyther rode that. The standers are why I didn't say FST..since your colour came in all the 3 models.

I do remember being able to read G-code off a paper tape.

I gave my wife a Valentine's "I Love You" in ascii on a paper tape, one year. She still has it.

Around 1989 the Swans guy came to our door and made some sales pitch about delivering milk and ice cream I believe. I remember THEN, thinking, people in 1989 are going to pay to have milk delivered?

In 1960 we had a Reiter milkman. There was Borden's, Lawson's, Reiter's and others. There was an insulated box by the door and they picked up your empties and left the assigned quart bottles.
Some older boxes were wood. Ours was metal with a styrofoam liner. And the company name on the box.
Once delivery prices got more than in store prices, we stopped delivery.
We had a Nickle's bread man too. He was the first black man I ever met.
I can still remember his face. Always smiling and happy.
