I was in 5th grade at the time and I acually remember all of it!

We were stationed at Ramenstien Air Force Base in Germany. I went to school on base and we got off the base, still a normal day, then I get home and turned on the tv to the only American channel we had, which was AFTV and was watching cartoons that they were playing! My mom gets home kisses me on the forhead and asked me how my day was at school. In the middle of our conversation the big AFTV logo came on the screen and it turned to fox news and they were live showing what had happened to the first tower. My mom started crying and I had no idea what had happened because at that point some people didnt know if it was a jumbo jet that flew in a regular plan or a bomb but everyone knew something bad was happening. 10 min later or whatever it was (it felt like a hour) the second plane flew into the tower 2. I then knew the seriousness of what was happening! My brother was next door and was to young to really understand. My mom immediatley called my dad and couldnt reach him ! My dad finally called and told my mom to get me away from the tv and outside. I didnt go. I told my mom I wanted to know what was happening in the states. She figured I was mature enough to understand so I was mature enough to watch. I remember it all and it affected it deep inside and Ill NEVER forget it!

I decided that day that I would do something wether it be joining the military or LE or Homeland Sercurity that I wanted to protect our country! call that bs or a cliche whatever idc its the GOD honest truth.

One of the things that defintley made me happy was to see all our greman neighbors be affected by it with US we all cried and felt for America that day!

MAY WE NEVER FORGET! GOD BLESS ALL AMERICANS AND OUR AMERICAN SOLDIERS AND HEROES!

    Ty

I was living in Colorado, working as an accountant, listening to the radio morning show. The DJs, known for their humor got real serious and started talking about a plane had just struck the WTC. I went to the reception area and had the lady turn on the TV to a news network. They were showing the burning tower. Several more people came in and started watching.

I was starting to have a bad feeling about what I was seeing as I grew up in NJ and had spent time in the WTCs since my dad had worked there for a few years back in the 1980s. We knew some airline pilots and they talked about how flying around NYC was a pain with the restrictions due to tall buildings. Planes just did not get that close to downtown.

Anyway a manager walked by and told everyone to "get back to work, that this was not a bar to hang around in and watch tv", to which I responded "Hey something is going on and this is important". Just then the second plane hit. Took my breath away. I realized this was no accident and quickly called my mom, still in NJ, to see if she knew about what was going on, she did not.

As it turns out, no one I knew was lost in the attacks, and my borther in law was unhurt in the Pentagon attack. I still get angry about that day.

This is a little weird. On the day of the attack I was at work in a residential subdivision inspecting the installation of a PMH pad switch for electrical distribution with a local contractor when we heard the news on the radio in the back hoe. We stopped work and listened is disbelief of the events as they happened.
Just yesterday(friday the 2nd) the same contrator and myself had to enter that manhole and work just down the street extending the duct structure that was stubbed for future the day after the attack.
Neither of us had been to that location once in all these years. We talked about that day while we worked.

Thanks to ALL troops for the life and freedom my family lives in.:canada::oldglory::wave:

Waiting at the bus stop for 4th grade. My buddy came running down the block and told me what happened, I didn't think what he told me was serious. I remember being real worried because my dad is a pilot and left for work that morning. As it turns out he just got in the air as the first plane hit and he saw the second plane hit the towers.

Was at work thinking about where to take the Missus for dinner that night on our anniversary when a fellow worker called us over to see what was happening in New York. As we watched, the second tower was hit and we were in shock. A fellow worker who was in the Jersey National Guard got a call and he was "Called up for Duty". He was on Staten Island for 9 months at the reclamation site for the recovery of remains from the collapse of the towers. He said it was a very somber and depressing time for everyone there. It was a very long, tearful, sad, day in American history:pray:! This day has touched everyone in one way or another regardless of age. Prayers going out for our troops for their safe return home:pray: and the utmost respect and deepest heartfelt thanks to all that have payed the ultimate price for our freedom(this includes all those heroes that lost their lives on 9-11):oldglory: May God rest their Souls.

I was in my 8th grade science class when a message came over the intercom about an attack against the US. Our teacher turned on the news in the classroom as the second tower was hit...

We got off school early that day, and my mom was home, which was out of the norm. That's when she told me that her sister was in the plane that crashed in PA.

holy shit man. Sorry to hear. There are a lot more people on this site than I thought that have been directly affected by the attacks. Either being there at the scene or having a family member killed. :(

I was in the Police Academy....remember walking back to my dorm room from defensive tactics training and turning on the tv. I saw all the smoke and thought it was a huge fire at first. I then realized that the Twin Towers had just fallen. We cancelled the day's classes and talked about what was unfolding in NY with all the scheduled instructors. I called my National Guard Unit Readiness NCO (I was in the Army National Guard at that time). Some of the soldiers were asked to report to the armory for duty. We had to protect a Mosque down the street from the Unit Armory. He told me to stay put, don't worry about what they were doing and focus on the academy.

    None yet!
At the time I was a member or the department's SWAT team and heading in for a day of training. I was listening to it happen on the radio on my way in then watched the news when i got to the City Hall. The city had us patrol the sensitive/high risk targets that are in the city. Then my reserve unit was activated about 6 months after that and was gone for 18 months.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I finished work at 4 am and went to bed.

For some unknown reason, out of a sound sleep, I awoke, walked directly into the living room, turned on the TV and saw the first plane hit.

what sad day it was, i was awaken by my wife and she was hysterical telling me to get up, i watched sadly as the live shots of the 1st tower was on fire and then i saw the second plane hit. The look on everyones faces was terror from the camera crew's. I became immedietly pissed and was pissed the whole day at work. I came home and was going up the stairwell to my apt. Bldg. and ran into someone i saw randomly once in awhile and he was sitting inbetween floors crying. I was like you ok bro? I simply lost it after he said he just found out he lost his brother who worked in the north tower. All i could say was god bless you. My wife and i went to NY in aug. 2009, it is a weird feeling to stand at ground zero even after 8 yrs. words cannot describe how my wife and I felt while we were there. God bless everyone that lost loved ones that day.

Thanks to everyone who are telling their stories. Unfortunately for some of you, 9/11 touches home in very personal way. I can't imagine your loss and I appreciate your openness in sharing your stories.

It's a week for remembering and paying tribute to those we lost then and every day since. Thanks again and please keep these personal stories coming.

i was in 8th grade and getting ready for school. I remember watching the plane hit the tower not knowing what was really going on. I thought it was just a bad accident. It wasn't till i was in Art class, watching the Towers fall that i realized what was going on. That day will be in my head forever, and i wasn't even close to New York. So if i can remember it all that from Texas, i cant imagine how the people that where there remimber it.

I was home, woke up and started reading one of my normal internet forums, then I saw a post about the first trade center getting hit, flipped on the news to see the second... rest of the day was a daze.

    Pretty tough to watch.
