Man, do what fits you and you like. I been shooting ducks, upland, turkey, and deer for 30 years. 23 of those I have owned and used a 870 wingmaster. Swing, feel, examine, and cycle a wingmaster compared to the express and you will see the difference. I will not won an express or a mossberg. Some guys love em...not me.

You do not need a 3.5" shell. Not worth the extra $$ for the gun or shells.

Good luck and let us know what you settle on.

I bought an 870 express super magnum a few years ago. I think it was around $350 or so from Bass Pro. I knew it was way overkill for what I do, but I figured it gave me the most options for any type of hunting I might do in the future and I wouldn't "need" to buy another shotgun. All I really use it for now is squirrels and shooting skeet. I've never fired a 3.5" shell and probably won't unless I start hunting waterfowl. I like the long barrel and the gun functions great. The only downside is it's pretty heavy compared to the old single shot break actions I used to carry. Since getting it I've noticed several older super magnums and wingmasters at the local gun shows for less. I don't know the difference in construction from the old to the new, but if you really want to shoot 3.5" shells either look for an older one used or get ready to part with some cash.

You got that right for sure!!!! Another consideration for a pump gun, is the overall length, especially if your arms are on the average (i.e. short side) like mine are. Even with the 3 inch models, it was a little too far to feel comfortable for me to hold the foregrip firmly in the middle, which you have to do if you want to make fast repeat shots with a pump.

went back to the gun shop and told them the story of what happened at big 5 and they lowered the price down to $350 plus 10% off everything in the store the day i pick up the gun. So i jumped on it!

    The 10 day wait begins!

Yeah, the little guys usually start higher, but they can negotiate. The big guys, what you see is what you pay.

not if it has to be registered. if you want to do that they have to ship it to a FFL dealer in your state and have you register it with them.

The utility of the 3.5" shell is limited. You'll be quite satisfied with the Express Magnum.
