Do we get any notification when our keyless remote fob runs low on battery? How often should I change the battery on my remote?

Your trucks cluster will display a message letting you know your fobs battery is low. I just changed mine about a week ago, lasted ~4 years.

4 years is a little disappointing. I got about 12 years out of the fob on an older non push button key. Modern technology is totally making advances though (/s). Never been a fan of the push button.

But good to know the truck gives a warning.

I'm only getting two years per battery. I haven't seen a notification in the dash, it just doesn't unlock/lock unless I am right next to the truck, so I change it.

It only shows it on the small cluster display when you turn the truck off, it displays a message stating key fob battery is low. If you don’t pay attention you will miss it. There’s older threads covering this topic already.

Yeah I got about two or three years on my last one. Think they die much quicker these days cause they are constantly sending and receiving info vs only when you push the lock/unlock button a few times a day on the old ones. And yes my display warned me when it was getting low. Also if it dies you can hold it right up to the push start button and it will work.

Same here, my first fob got me about 2 years when my truck notified me. I'm coming up to another 2 years so I expect to see it pop again relatively soon.

I’ll look for the earlier thread. My fob doesn’t always unlock or lock from about 10’. If anyone has the thread handy it would be appreciated. Found a YouTube on how to change the battery in the fob.

To prolong the battery life in the fob, turn it off for period of time you won't be using it (like when you're sleeping). It's also a good precaution so that thieves can't intercept the signal it's sending out to the truck (constantly when it's on). Mine is only 14 months old so I can't give a guess as to how long the battery will last. Besides, others have posted that your truck will let you know - IF you're paying attention. If it does die, you can still use the funky key to get into the truck, and then hold the fob near the push button to start your truck. Pretty simple to me.

You know what’s simpler? A key that you TURN!

It’s a pain to turn the key off every night. Also the constant signal emitted by the fob is not great for security.

Toyota did fine if this is our worst complaint, but the design does seem kinda silly. Not sure why we need a proximity sensory.

    Much simpler.

But on the bright side, at least we don’t have the dreaded *gasp* auto stop start found on most other vehicles.

No argument from me on that point.
Yeah, I know. <Lock-hold><Unlock><Unlock><Release> is such a difficult button combo.
If you're referring to the 'Touch the handle unlock', that's one button press you don't have to do.
