Hey all so I love in the north east NEW ENGLAND to be more specific and it gets very cold here. So the other day I'm driving when I notice the CLUTCH START CANCEL button. Now this gets me thinking what exactly this is for other than being in the truck and start it in neutral without engaging the clutch, so basically I'm wondering if anyone with a 6SPD has a remote car starter or if it's even possible?? If so man would it make my mornings sooooo much easier

I have heard it being done somewhere on this forum. And am sure somebody will chime in, good luck. When I had my 2010 6 speed nobody in my area would do it for me stating legality issues.

To my knowledge, CSC is for leaving it in gear and using the starter to crawl yourself out of a sticky situation while wheeling.

You can definitely get remote starters for your truck, you'll just have to park on level surfaces and use your e-brake. No biggie.

Ok awesome thanks for the info I'll just have to remember to leave it in neutral and not in gear like I do normally

The installation is a little different because it has to bypass the clutch start, which is why I'd leave the install up to a reputable professional. If you're doing the install yourself, do LOTS of research! A remote starter is what I'm hoping santa's out under the tree.... if not, that'll be my boxing day purchase :D

This is going to be a real can of worms.

While from the electrical side of things not all that hard.

But I doubt any shop will touch this because all you would need to do is leave this in gear one time hit the remote go through the garage door move enough to hit something .

The only way for it to work is eliminate the clutch safety in the starting circuit

If your serious maybe a transfer case neutral switch could be made allowing it to crank only when the transfer case was in neutral via the remote

There is a few company's that do this legally. Compustar is one of them. Outside of the electrical connections, there is a shutdown sequence you go through to enable the remote start for the next startup. You will have to exit a running vehicle, upon closing the door the truck will shutdown. If it is not done correctly or one of the doors is opened prematurely, it will not start via the remote start.

There are a couple of ways to do it. I've done RS installs personally in several manual vehicles. Not complicated at all for a competent installer. If you leave it in gear bad things happen unless it is done the way @fergyz described but it can be done in a more crude manner as well and still work just fine. If you go with the crude route, just don't hit the button when you're parked on my street. There are 27 kids that live on my cul-de-sac street.

I installed the viper system in my Tacoma. Like mentioned above, it has a particular shut down sequence to make sure it's not in gear. Its nice on the winter days to warm up the truck, and I used it in the summer to keep he battery fresh when I wasn't driving it.

Tons of shops install remote starts on manual transmission vehicles, it's nothing special or unusual at all. The remote start is just programmed with a serious of safety checks prior to it being allowed to start.

Might be so up in your part of the world around here I have never found any shop that does it.

Then we don`t have cold temperatures

Most people worried about car bombs drive automatic transmissions

The easy way is wire a relay across that clutch start cancel button controlled by the status output on the remote start. And since it is a manual, there is no neutral safety wire, so you just attach the neutral safety wire on the remote start to a ground. Everything else is wired exactly the same as an automatic.

Back in the old days before remote starts had all the hoops you need to jump through to remote start a manual that's how we did it. And you can still do it that way.

Just make sure disable it before giving the car to anyone else to drive. My cousin left his MR2 at a mechanic shop and they accidentally fired it up and it ran into a brick wall on the side of their building. Luckily it was already close to the wall so it didn't have time to fully start.

Then another time he went into Subway to grab a sandwich. He had parked it around the corner in front of a Mexican restaurant. When he was walking out of Subway he had his hands full with a sandwich in one hand and a drink in the other. He used his hand that was carrying the sandwich to reach into his pocket to grab the keys and accidentally activated the remote start and it fired up and drove through a plate glass window of the Mexican restaurant. Thankfully, there were no customers sitting in the booths on that wall.

Some of the people who say a remote start on a manual is not the greatest idea can give examples of why. Shit happens.

I looked at getting one for mine and, as noted above, remote starters are available for manual transmission vehicles and have a shut down procedure that you have to follow for the starter to engage.
