The truck doesn't have any prox sensors (or other positive indication of being in gear) in the transmission, so it really isn't a fool proof system.

Yeah that's what's making me start to reconsider... My roommate just got a remote starter in his Infiniti and it got me thinking about how cool it would be, but I'm a bit scared I'd somehow start it in gear or have it run away on me if an e brake cable broke.

I’m interested in one as well for my ‘13. I’ve never heard or read of a manual remote start on our trucks taking off. Can you post a link to those that have?

The ones that have were on other make/model cars, but just knowing we don't have any sensors that tell the ECU the truck is in gear worries me a bit.

Trust me. You CANNOT leave it in gear with the N2 system. There is no way. Its not like a remote start system on an automatic. If you dont leave it in ready mode it won't start, if you leave it in gear then it CANT be in ready mode.

As far as the ebrake cable snapping... i trust that mechanical connection much more than the electronically controlled automatic transmissions on most vehicles today.

If you have any concerns message or call @N2DesignsInc

He was fantastic when i was purchasing and talked to me on the phone for 20 minutes explaining how the system works and fielding my questions. Fantastic customer service.

Do they make a kit for 05+ Tacoma's? I only saw the 16-19 one.

With the procedure that’s required to put it in ready mode, I figure the only way it would take off in gear would be if someone reached in through an open window after it’s off and put the truck in gear.

Yeah, and I never leave my windows down anyways. Just wondering if they make one for our trucks or not, not seeing one.

Anyone know if they make the N2 for a 2014? I can only find one for 2016-2020.

    I’d say no.
I wanted tires the Wife got the remote done, it was a gift.

But it seems the setup would be similar?
This would mean you having the truck in gear running and getting out.
I worry more about me hitting the brake pedal or not shutting door tight or forgetting something inside.
And it isn’t set up anymore.

I have an Astrostart two way starter in my truck. I had it installed before i brought the truck home when I bought it. There's no way it could start in gear, as you can't arm the starter with the truck in gear. If you leave the truck in gear when you shut it off, you can't use the auto starter.

After reading the manual for the one that I would want, I'm thinking I might get this one. I like that it comes with a master switch to turn off the starting feature when you don't want it to be able to remote start, and the safety sequence isn't overly complicated.

Why did you disconnect it, and did you like it when you still had it?

Does yours also stay running while you exit the vehicle then shut off after shutting the door?

I still have it, it works great, I use it all the time. It's especially great on days like today when it's - 30°C.

So I figured out which one I want, but the only place near me that can install it is Best Buy, and I'm pretty sure they won't do it on manual transmission vehicles. I need to call them and ask.

It's awesome for living in Canada. The shutdown sequence is involved so no risk of starting accidentally. If anything changes out of the norm after the sequence (shifting with clutch in, activating parking brake before truck is in neutral, etc.) the truck will shut down as soon as key is removed and not remote start. Truck doesn't stop running until you lock doors after you leave the truck.

When remote starting the truck doors are locked and the truck won't drive until you unlock, get in and put the key in the run position on the ignition otherwise it just shuts down. Plus most young thieves probably can't drive stick if they somehow get around the safeties.

Since it's a sequence I always crank the defrost and seat heaters in the winter before shutting down. Also I wouldn't trust it if I was parking on any sort of real grade but wherever I park is generally pretty flat.

Mine was already installed when I bought the truck. Also, the remote starters for my wife's car and my truck both seem to start falling apart and breaking after a couple of years. Pain in the ass

You mean the remotes start breaking after a couple years or the actual system stops working?
