    Good evening all,

I have taken the daunting task of installing a Compustar 4900 in my 2018 Tacoma SR. I was thinking the install was relatively straight forward after I looked into the directions from the kit and a couple kids for keyless entries online. I've gotten the locks and horns to work, and thaaaaat's about it. I've tried searching this forum with no avail. I also could not even find anything that labeled which wire was in each port of the harnesses.

Honestly I do not know where to begin with describing it. I have all the remote start stuff up, but it just isn't working. The start sequence turns on the truck, clicks on the furl pump, and then clicks and doesn't even start the starter. The starter cable is pushing 12V as it is supposed to.

In the directions it says there is an blue wire that is optional, but is used for vehicles that require a 2nd ignition. Do Gen 3s require this? I could not find anything about it for the life of me.

Is there an immobilizer in Gen 3s? I tried sticking the key in the "on" position, but that didn't have an effect either.

I can take pictures as needed...

In the very least, has someone found or know of a forum about this? Doesn't have to be the same brand. Please ease off the "should've went to best buy" responses. haha

Sounds like a immobilizer / transponder issue. Almost every car built in last 15 years uses a transponder key or better security.

Most people around just use on the the plug n play solutions fron 12vsolutions, accessorides, startx, etc that are based on the evo1 remote starter.

Return that thing an spend the $450 on an N2Designs kit with the cell phone app.
It's more money, but you'll be happy you did.

Wrap foil around the key mold (black plastic part), if still starts, it doesn't have an immobilizer. I don't think the base models have it (if you have the key that needs to be put into the keyhole to unlock). Sounds like wiring (ignition OR programming - needs a reset/reprogram). Also, who flashed it? If parameters aren't set correctly, it could also act that way.

Haha...read my mind. Ours is 100% plug n play for this vehicle and you get the two, 4-button 2-way feedback fobs (they tell you via LED colors and audible sound if your button presses made it or not to the vehicle since they're rated for half mile range)...and it's actually $399.

Only push to start Lexus and Toyota (and few other makes). Key-less (standard key) kits and HKEY AT/MT do not shutoff when the door is opened. However, you cannot remote start any vehicle when doors are typically open (or hood). If you sat inside with door closed or just sat inside on the driver's seat while programming, you may want to re-program it standing outside and leaning in. Same goes if the hood was open, or the vehicle was in ACC mode when programming.

Again, sometimes it's the firmware flash (if done incorrectly) that can cause this. Did you flash it yourself or buy a universal kit? Sometimes T harnesses are sold to complement these kits and can save the heartache you're going through since time is money...unless you enjoy troubleshooting until resolved...

But yea, if OP changes his mind and wants something that works without thought on wiring, we're always here! :)

The Tacoma has 2 start wires and 2 ignition wires that need to be powered up. The blue is a selectable output. However to properly power them with the 4900 you’ll need to isolate another output to power the 2nd ignition or starter wire.
Also it has an immobilizer. You will need a blade AL or another module to bypass the immobilizer

Correct. IF it has an immobilizer, then the module the OP has should be a remote starter & bypass in-one or else a bypass is also needed as a remote starter alone won't do it. Our module for HKEY and base models without keyless entry (where our kits give you keyless and remote start) have the remote starter and bypass all in one module so that there isn't extra hardware to complicate an install. If I were the OP, I'd check to make sure you have a remote starter with built in bypass or else nothing will happen. These require the seller (or customer with the right cable and software/know how) to flash the module correctly. They aren't generic/universal pop-ons.

@Djenko PM me links to your hardware list and I can take a look when I get a chance.

I believe that the hood being open might also prevent starting.
