If I start my Taco remotely using the key fob it starts up without a problem, locking the doors in the process. But when I go to unlock the doors to get in the truck shuts off. WHY? Can someone please explain the rationality of this to me please.

Sounds like an issue with the facial recognition software.

It's a Toyota thing, and no way around it on the push-to-start models. Lots of threads on this.

That's how Tacomas work. It's a little dumb but it doesn't make it any harder, you still need to press the brake and the start button to drive the truck whether it turns off or not.

It's the smart key, it has to switch over to the next key. There is no instant switch like a standard key.

All Toyotas are like this and many other brands.

I understand. But it just seems pointless to have to restart a vehicle that was running. Maybe Toyota is just trying to sell more starters.

Wait until they add start-stop on the next models... Drives me crazy sometimes on our Highlander.

It’s Toyota’s method for ensuring that no one can just get in and drive away. Including the guy with the fob. They could have designed it to stop when going into gear without a fob present but that might be too complicated.

The best mod I could come up with to fix this issue is wait 10.01 minutes to get in your truck after you remote start it. When you jump in you’d never know it was running except for it being cooled off or heated up!
