It's 39F here this morning and I started mine just because. Gotta love those heated seats. And can you people up north keep your weather up there.

But we did get a couple feet of snow, so skiing is going to be outstanding this weekend.

How so? Parts stores sell starters every day, and not only for old vehicles. Not to mention, my family owns a alternator/starter repair business and they stay busy. It's mechanical, it will wear out. Sooner rather than later with more uses.

I'd love remote start but I'd be nervous about all the excessive starts

Even if the starter goes someday, not freezing to death all winter is well worth it.

Do you think about the starter when you're making five stops on your way home from work? When you pump gas, then start the car and pull up to the convenience store before going in for a slushy?

Take a minute and think through all the other wear components that you use out of convenience/comfort rather than necessity.

    Window motors
    Power locks
    Sunroof motors

Even tires and brakes; driving around looking for that better parking spot, or going to different stores looking for different options, etc.

So yeah, the extra start is technically additional wear. Unless you're really using it multiple times daily I doubt it'd make for any discernible difference in starter lifetime.

I'd replace my starter once a month if my ass was warm.

Yep, actually I think about it all the time. Something I hate doing is starting my truck only to realize I forgot something in my house and having to shut it back off to go inside....

My automotive technology instructor taught me something that I'll never forget. Long story but here's the highlights...(kid gets caught pressing every button on this new mustang our facility had donated to us....the professor flew off the handle fussing him out and his point was to say....every time you push those buttons...that's one less time they are going to work when you actually need it to) And he was right. I'll never forget it lol.

Also, I don't drive my vehicle from the gas pump to the parking spot to get a slushee...that'd be completely asinine. Haha

My point wasn't that I can keep all things from breaking or wearing out. It was about helping extend the life of things by not using them more than needed, that's all.

id like to see one made that doesn't shut off as long as the fob is near. I'd be sold then for sure!

Fair enough. My point is that it's a trade off. Lots and lots of more comfortable mornings / afternoons vs _possibly_ replacing the starter early. I'd wager most folks will have moved on to a different/new truck before their starter fails. Depending on where you live we're talking about maybe 100-200 extra starts per year.

You'll need to go to something other than a third gen Tacoma for that. This is a Toyota thing not a remote start vendor thing.

    Truck stuff
It's in the 20's today and getting into a warm truck was sooooo nice today with out having to run outside in the cold to start warming up the truck or get into a cold truck when leaving for work. So happy with my new remote start!

We're gaining traction on filling orders. Lead time should be about 1 week from time of order placement to delivery.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the difference in your kit and the Fortin remote start kit?

Ok. But does your kit come with everything you need to wire everything up? It doesn't come with anything to tap into the wires does it?

There's not really a kit from Fortin any more so than there's a kit from Directed (who makes the DBALL2 that KB VooDoo's kit uses)

Any Fortin kits for the Tacoma that I've seen are put together by a reseller, although Fortin does have a partial T-harness if I remember correctly. The ones I've looked at seem of similar level of install to what is needed for a DBALL2.

Our kit comes with everything you need. It does not come with anything to tap into wires, they have to be spliced manually.
