Uhh if you have a Tacoma or other Toyota with a fob start it has remote start built in. You don't need any trial or subscription. Nothing wring with your Honda choice but you could have stayed Toyota if you did research. if Honda I woulda stepped up to a CRV.

Yes my Tacoma has it and I use it, like many in this thread it worked fine until it didn't. I had to load an APP on my phone and sign up for a free trial as well as giving Toyota permission to use/sell my data. All kinds of extra screwing around just to use the key FOB to start my truck from 40 feet away, especially since it worked a few months earlier, that really pissed me off. The wife's Rav4 was a 2017 so it didn't have any remote connect crap or remote start and my guess is the newer Rav's have the same bull$hit system as my Tacoma. This is the main reason we never even gave Toyota a chance this time. The Honda is mostly a commuter and grocery getter so we really didn't need anything else besides AWD so we didn't need to upsize to the CR-V. The fact that the remote start button is right on the Honda FOB tells me it won't randomly stop working after a few years like my Tacoma.

I don’t believe Remote Start is an automatic option unless it it programmed into the ECU at time of purchase and connected to app for owner.

I say this from experience as being the first owner and having a salesman who took care of me during the process.

Anything done after-the-fact is suspect…but can be corrected.

When I bought my wife's 2023 Tacoma this year, the sales person told us that the key fob includes the remote-start feature that it remains active for a period of two years. In this case, it is free through the 2-year period of Toyota Care, but it becomes optional after Toyota Care expires. Some people have reported that even after Toyota Care expires, they are still using the remote-start option in the key fob.

I'm going on 3.5 years of ownership of my truck and Remote Start still works.

Of course, I gave Toyota authorization to monitor my driving habits upon utilizing the app, and I was ok with that.

EDIT: It still worked even when my app was non-operational.

Well my Tacoma remote start has always worked with just the fob. Never installed an app for anything Toyota or start or connect with my phone.

This is very interesting to me since everyone has their own opinion on how/why system works...and doesn't work.

I'm satisfied with how my system works...and I believe it has all to do with the salesman and how the Toyota app is set up.

I can only go with what I know to be true since I experienced it.

This was my experience with the system as well until early this winter, never singed up for anything and I'm the original owner. Yours being a 23 you still have some time on the original trial period, but I would bet in the not too distant future you will have to jump through additional hoops to get it to work again.

This is all very convoluted, and it took a lot of reading of the fine print, to figure this all out. There is also a lot of bad information on this. This guy's explanation of what Toyota is doing is the most clear and accurate explanation I have seen:

    https://youtu.be/E3Wt8erKaEI?feature=shared

Note also that Toyota has changed the lengths of various trials over the years, and each version of TSS can change the terms and conditions a bit as well.

Long story, short, if your key fob still does remote start, Toyota is spying on you and selling your data. If you decline to let them spy/sell, they take away the key fob functionality, as I found out with my wife's 2023 Highlander.

Saw that mask and perked up- I lived in ESR for a couple years with a GF who grew up in the area. Quite different than DE, as I can attest to having grown up close by in South Jersey. All this talk of the remote start has me looking forward to testing it on my new-to-me 2023 TRD OR.

I declined the driving habit monitoring from Toyota but have the trial for the other connected services through the app- I can remote start and lock/unlock from my phone for now, but haven’t tried the fob.

I was wondering if anyone would recognize ESR...it's what the local gangs use to mark territory...Physical Graffiti, I call it! lol

Went to Sierra Park/ESJHS/Wilson prior to joining the USAF for 25 year career and having a family.

Living in Delaware is great for me...and I don't miss the city/suburbia life.

As for the Remote Start, I'm glad the young salesman that handled my sale took care of my buying experience. (He was given to me since he was newby)

When my truck was registered in their system, he set up my Toyota app and I'm guessing it set me up for 10 years. lol

Odd, because my 2018 OR Premium definitely does not, and never had, remote start. No one on this forum was talking about remote start as a standard OEM feature until the 2020 model refresh.

Remote start does appear to be hardwire to the current DCM module, and maybe those modules made it into the 2019 model year (they are not in older models as we lost all possible connectivity with the mothership when 3g cell coverage was made obsolete) and as a fluke transition model.

It probably more possible the dealership installed remote start capability, and the original owners forgot or were not aware they paid for it.

I'm beginning to think that my 2019 got this feature incidentally as it was built late in the year very close to the 2020 model year transition. My truck has none of that connectivity stuff with Toyota but it definitely has the FOB activated remote start. I'll take it!

Ahh I gotcha. We were right off Huntington, on Pueblo about a mile from south Pasadena. Was a cool experience but I’m definitely not a city guy- Burbank (where I lived when I first got to CA, and where I am again now) is about as “city” as I wanna go, aka basically suburbs lol.

    Dang!

You were right down the street from me...I walked to that church on Poplar.

You were near a Tortilleria that served great menudo.

    Small world.

Small world indeed! For all the noise and nonsense that went on over there, the food was great (menudo is fire!). Been meaning to take a ride over there for lunch/dinner one of these days.

My 23 Trail does not have this feature. Eyeballing the StartX and using the wife's CX-5 as the guinea pig first as this was her xmas gift request.

I would get the carlink module as well. Doubles as a tracker and remote starter from the app.
