I have a 2023 Tacoma, 6 speed automatic, keyless start. My friend just bought a 2024 RAV4 and he sent me a video of him using the remote start. When I first tried it, it didn’t work. Then I watched the video again. Here’s what works for me:
Watch the back taillight. Press lock and let the light flash. Press lock again and wait for the flash. Then press and hold lock. After 3-4 seconds the light will flash a few times and the engine will start.
    Hope this helps :)

My 2023 Tacoma TRD Offroad does. It took some playing around with timing to get it right, but I press and as soon as I see the tail light I press again and repeat but hold the button down the third time until after a few seconds the tail lights will flash several times and the truck starts.

I guess the point of shutting down is to prevent someone from just jumping in and stealing your truck while you're inside the house brushing your teeth.

They can't. The doors are locked.
IMHO there is no point to shutting down - other than maybe safety.

H key equipped trucked don't turn of when the door is opened. I have an aftermarket remote start and it locks the door bu when you push the unlock button and open the door it stays running. you do have to put in the key and turn it, with out pressing the brake, as that will shut the engine down.

the shut down thing must have something to do with the push to start system not having a function like the old time key where you have to put in the to unlock the wheel

My 2023 Limited starts via phone APP, or by pressing the lock button three times. My free 'subscription' for my App services expires in Dec, and I have no intention on renewing it.
