Every other car will die if you hit the brake without the key in the ignition or present in the vehicle. You can't steal the car cause you can't get it out of park without the key in. Turning off when you open the door is a useless feature and annoying.

That's not true. The rogue my wife used to have would drive without the key in it once it's been started.

Had the dealer install remote start when I purchased my 2019 OR DCLB in July. I had already did the research and knew that the truck would stop running when the door was opened. Yes it is annoying to have to start the vehicle again but since it's starting to get cold in the mornings I like that the truck is nice and warm when I get in.:)

My experience is only on the third gen with auto and push start button. I could not speak for key ignition models, but it’s interesting to learn about everyone else’s experiences.

So is mine. I meant other brands (Ford, etc.). Toyota is the only one that I know of that does this.

My wife's former Forester did it too (and so does her new Highlander).

Is it really annoying though? Are you annoyed any time you don’t use the remote start and get in the truck and start it?

Ha! Never looked at it that way. And yes I am annoyed when I don't use it because I have to sit in my cold ass truck.

I'm not familiar with Nissan remote start but there's no way it doesn't require the key to unlock the door or some similar feature after remote starting. You're telling my you can remote start it, I can walk up bust the window and drive away with no key? I don't buy that.

It is annoying. Is it a big deal in the grand scheme of things? No it's not.

Doesn't mean it doesn't bother me though. It's not so much the act of hitting the start button again it's more that it's unnecessary for it to function that way.

The old lady's 4Runner has factory remote start and it shuts off when door is opened. Kinda frustrating since it takes forever to warm up or cool off. And the fact it shuts off after 5-10 minutes. Aftermarket Viper in Tacoma won't shut off unless you touch brake without key in ignition.

I'm not sure what kind of logic you are using there, but I expect the features of a $40k vehicle to be thoughtfully implemented and not leaving users scratching their heads.

So the answer is yes it is annoying when I forget to start while I'm getting ready for work and yes it's annoying when I get in and can't drive off because I have to start it again. Deal breaker? Nah, I'll suck it up and keep the truck lol.

I get that it can be a little annoying/puzzling on how the design choices were made but in practicality and daily use it causes no additional annoyance or headache.

That's EXTREMELY subjective and you certainly don't speak for everyone.

Toyota can do no wrong around here... I'm shocked that the you should have caught that in the test drive or read the owners manual crew hasn't shown up yet.

I don’t even own a Toyota anymore, I just don’t let the small things bother me.
