How about a smart door handle for the passenger side? Is that likely to be a thing? I'd very much like that

i have the Viper system installed in my Tacoma and my wife's PTS Rav and you can open the door on the Rav and the vehicle still keeps running. When you step on the brake without having the key fob on you it will shut off.

Very doubtful, they haven't put any smart entry handles on the passenger side on any production Toyota's as far as I'm aware of.

For Entune 3.0, ours is not Entune 3.0 as the 2018 Camry is the only one with this system. I know, I just tried to set this all up, got at the registration done until it asks for your vehicle VIN and it said, "nope". Then I called them and they informed me that this service is not available on the Tacoma. So pissed I wasted my time, live and learn I guess.

Sorry about that, I didn't know it didn't work for ours, my dealership said it would. I haven't tried it.

I believe I've heard people say that 4runners and Rav 4s along with camrys have them. I could be wrong.

These remote starter threads are tough to read as a remote starter shop owner and installer. Go for Compustar or iDatalink products if you want reliability. Drone Mobile is awesome, especially now with their new LTE unit.

The lack of takeover on PTS Toyotas still sucks (Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura are all the same way). Mazdas with the PTS used to be the same way too, but iDatalink figured out how to keep the car running and allowing takeover, so there's still hope for us PTS Toyota people.

For those worried about remote starting and re-starting before driving, its more of an annoyance than a real problem. Look at how many vehicles now shut the engine off when you come to a stop and then restart when you let off the brake. Those cars are starting WAY more times than our PTS Tacomas. The other thing here, when you remote start your Tacoma it warms everything up. If its warm and you have to restart it before you drive, it starts so much easier since its already warmed up. Personally, I almost never drive unless my truck has ran for at least a couple minutes.

A co worker of mine truck does not shut off when door opens. Though it does when presses break and then PTS

He said dealer installed starter and he asked it be this way.
Said was a typical remote starter and not oem

Will ask my dealer if can do same

They probably just turned off door trigger monitoring in the remote starter or bypass module. Still doesn't fix the problem.

Sooo.... Anybody have any info on remote start for us peasants without fancy push to start? I bought a $100 module for my key start 2015 Fusion that was a 10 minute install and works with the factory keyfob just like that 12volt solutions one.

Pretty standard remote start install. There is a T harness solution out there if you use the right products.

I’ve googled but maybe my google-fu isn’t very good cause the only non push to start models I could find were some universal ones with lots of wires to hook up...

Having issues with my wife’s old car having a well know store at the time install hers, I say dealer. They mess it up, they fix it. No pointing fingers (a lot I dealt with), all dealer.

+1 on Compustar. I've had it for about a year now and like it better than the Viper I had on my last Tacoma.

I had compustar on my last vehicle and it was nice. I hated having the extra remote that you had to carry and remember to charge. I think this time around, and for significantly less, the 12v solutions one will work just fine. I can't see any down sides. I don't want to monitor the thing from my phone, I don't need it to tell me if it started a mile away etc. I just want something to start the truck, not signal me via satellite and smoke signals.
