I sell the evo plug and play remote starters over in the 3rd for sale section. Both for push start and Hkey. Over 45 sold to members with no issues.

With the Viper Smart Start yes the engine will shut off if you touch the brake pedal before you put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position

This is how it works on my 02 DC Pre Runner

They all turn off with push start remote starters.

This is the same as any other remote start on keyed and non-toyota/lexus smart key vehicles. Most other manufacturers allow take-over with smart keys where the push-to-start button needs to be pushed with the smart key present for the vehicle to remain running but toyota/lexus are a completely different story with the vehicle shutting off when the door is opened. To date, no one has found a viable work around or it would be widely publicized.

I don't know if you saw my post in another remote start thread...

I just discovered that if you unplug the door sensor the truck thinks the door is closed (yellow wire). So, if you interrupt the door sensor wire you can get in without the truck shutting off. Would that allow you to proceed without the engine shutting off?

(I don't have remote start... yet, anyways.)

I thought of trying that as well, but what happens when you get in? If you hit the start button will it try to start the vehicle or what if you are driving and the remote starter turns off after 15-20 min? Some testing would need to be done.

    Yeah, I don't know; I don't have one, so...

If you have one: what happens if you remote start when you are already inside with the door closed? Since non-Toyota remote starts disengage when you press the ignition, I hoped you could do the same.

If the reason no one can make a remote start work on a Toyota is because of the door opening; then, this seems to solve that problem (albeit with decreased security). Now, we just need to find/make an alarm system that won't shut it off later.

Once I get back from Mexico, I will take a look at my programmer for the fortins and see if there is a way to turn off run time or make changes to allow the vehicle to run. Problem is even if you disconnect the drivers side, what happens when the wife or kids get in. You would have to disconnect all door pins.

Problem is then if car is at dealer and door is opened and it somehow starts, by someone hitting lock 3x

I look forward to a solution. I, and I suspect others, will not consider a remote start that shuts off when opening the door.

You could still have the driver door only unlock set, right? Or tell the family to chill until you press the ignition (or whatever).

...and you still have the hood sensor safety feature intact, right?

I am pretty sure that many will buy a remote starter even though it shuts off. Just based on sales I have had and others I know.

If you have a push to start button, no matter who installs it, it will still turn off when you open the door.. there is no way around it yet.. now if you have an H-key then that's a different story

Sure; but, I don't think I am the only special snowflake that doesn't want one if it shuts off.

Also, I bet many/most people who buy them don't realize it shuts off when you open the door. There are posts in probably every remote start thread (this one included) confusing the issue saying their alarm doesn't shut off when you open the door... it would be pretty sweet if you could say yours is the first that doesn't.

Not on my thread :). As it’s explained prior to purchase.

Tried this morning remote starting while inside the truck and you would still need to get around the brake switch since it turns off when you hit the brake. Either way I'm not sure it's worth the effort for what most deem a minor annoyance.

Does it turn off if you press the ignition without touching the brake? (That's what you do in non-toyota PTS remote starts.)

Meant to try that this morning but forgot. I'll try this afternoon unless someone else beats me to it.

Update: yes, it does turn off when pushing the button. No different than pushing it as normal with the truck in park.

I bought a 2005 hemi pickup brand new and had a top of the line Python system installed in 05 it was an alarm and remote start that cost me $1000.00 at that time which was a lot of money. One of the security features was if you stepped on the brake before putting the key in the ignition and turning the key forward the engine would shut off. The installer told me the way that it works is if somebody were to try and steal the vehicle in order to put it in gear you have to step on the brake to do so leaving the vehicle immobilized and unable to steal. I don't know if that helps you any.
